Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial. com Barbara’s wonderful journey in life began on Aug. 21, 1937, in Geneva, born to parents Frank and Rose (Schaefer) Nittler. She was the youngest of 13 children. Barbara graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic school and Geneva Senior High School in 1955.

On Nov. 7, 1959, she married John Sheridan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Geneva. She enjoyed telling the story that he told her after their first date, he would marry her one day. She laughed because she did not want to marry a farmer. They lived just outside of Sutton on the farm till their move to Legacy Square this past April.

Barbara and John raised five children and enjoyed family vacations, camping, water skiing, and any sport their children played. Barbara never missed any activity that her children or grandchildren were involved in. She took great pleasure in making sure that everybody she encountered was well taken care of. Her house was the congregating place for all of her children’s friends and first cousins and nobody left hungry. She cooked three full meals every day and made sure that everyone working in the fields was well fed.

The Nittler’s were a very tight-knit Catholic family. Their house was directly across the street from the church, allowing them to easily attend Mass daily. They may not have had all of life’s luxuries, but they had a lot of love.

Although Barbara was much younger than her oldest siblings, they all remained great friends throughout their lives. There were many vacations and reunions with the Nittler siblings and children. Camping in the Tetons near Pinedale, WY, was a favorite that was attended by 50 to 75 relatives for many years. The month of February was also special to Barbara and John as they spent it in Maui, HI with Barbara’s brother, Jerry, and his wife, Betty, for more than 30 years. Her children and grandchildren as well as assorted nieces and nephews also crowded into their condominium in Maui many of those years, creating the best memories for everyone.

Barbara cared deeply for everybody she encountered. She made everyone feel as if they were special to her and they truly were. She left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. It was impossible not to be a better person just by spending time with her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband John, five children, Shawn (Martha) of Sutton, Barry (Laurie) of Sutton, Patrick Sheridan (Jan Hoegh) of Grand Island, Tommy Sheridan of Baldwin, KS, and Amy (Chris) Crownhart of Severance, CO; grandchildren, Andrew, Tristan, Brenden, John and Riley Sheridan, Grant, Anna and Erin Crownhart; great-grandchildren, Jack, Annie, Hannah, Wrenley and Ronan Sheridan. Her best friend in life and only living sibling was Dorothy Newman in Columbus, NE In addition: the special children that she babysat and loved like no one else could: Rachel, Kaitlyn, Margaret, Nels, Alexa, Michael, Stephanie and Kevin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, and their spouses.
