Gerald “Jerry” Gangwish

Sutton resident Gerald “Jerry” Ray Gangwish, 93, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at his home in Sutton.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m., Monday, at the Juniata Cemetery in Juniata, with Pastor Arick Johanson officiating. Visitation was Sunday, from 3-7 p.m., with the family present from 4-6p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com. Jerry was born Sept. 29, 1932, on the family farm by Juniata. He was the 11th of 13 children born to Earl and Nellie Gangwish. Jerry and Dian Karr were married Dec. 25, 1952. They had six children together and were married for over 30 years. Later, Jerry married Marjorie Kunce Sept. 2, 2006.

Jerry was a wonderful, loving father and husband who was loved by everyone that ever had the privilege of meeting him. Jerry played basketball and baseball in school, participated in 4H and milked cows on the family farm. He was a member of the Federated Church in Sutton.

Jerry was the assistant manager at Shelton and Juniata Co-ops. Afterwards, he managed the Sutton Co-op for 26 years. He was inducted into the Cooperative Hall of Fame and honored for 50 years of service in Agriculture. He served on the board of CPI and volunteered as a fireman and EMT. Jerry was an avid golfer and a member of the Central Nebraska Seniors Golf Association. He was instrumental in getting a new golf course built in Sutton. Jerry enjoyed tennis, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; parents, Earl and Nellie Gangwish; seven brothers and three sisters; step-son, Dave Kunce; and step-daughter, Cheryl Kunce.

Jerry is survived by his son Raymond (Peggy) Gangwish, daughter Patti (Mark) Krueger, daughter Nancy Domeier, daughter Peggy (Lyle) VonSpreckelsen, daughter Julie (Gerald) Benes, son James (Shanda) Gangwish; sisters, Marilyn Stromer and Carolyn Cook; step-daughters, Debbie (Bob) Ritonya and Linda (Mitch) Stoltenberg; step-son Dan Kunce; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-greatgrandchild.
