Lila Mae Herman was born and raised to Christina Jolene (Rewerts) Hill and Clifford Hill on Oct. 10, 1945, in Franklin, NE, and passed away Jan. 2, 2026, in Omaha at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 23 days. She was one of five children in the family.

She attended Clay Center Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1965. Lila worked various babysitting jobs around Clay Center and worked at Flossie’s Café in Clay Center. She also cleaned houses for multiple families in the area. When she wasn’t working, she spent time at the local swimming pool with her friends. Lila was married to Jerry Lee Herman in Clay Center on June 18, 1967, and to them, two boys were born, Jeffrey and Corey. They lived in Clay Center and then Carleton for the first few years of their marriage, before finding their permanent home in Geneva in 1971. Lila enjoyed ceramics, embroidery, and car racing. She enjoyed the days and evenings spent watching her grandsons’ Figure 8 races and also enjoyed watching her son, Corey, race his lawnmower. She loved all animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed raising a wide variety of plants. One of her most enjoyable pastimes was sending cards to family and friends, no matter what the occasion might be, just to let them know she was thinking about them. Her favorite music to pass the time was country western.

Lila is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Hill and Christina Hill; son, Corey Herman; and brother, Vernon Hill.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Herman; son, Jeff Herman; granddaughter, Jessica (Logan) Thomsen; grandson, Jake (Danielle) Herman; great-grandchildren, Zaden, Zander, Kennedy, Oaklynn, and Grayson; brother, Ronald Hill; and sisters, Susan Alspaugh and Melody Kolbets.

A funeral service for Lila was at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva, with Pastor Andrew Carter presiding.

There were four music selections for Lila’s funeral service. Two special selections were sung by Alan Jackson, “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” and “I’ll Fly Away”. The congregation sang two hymns that were accompanied by organist, Denise Hinrichs, “Amazing Grace” and “Take The World, But Give Me Jesus.”

Pallbearers included Jeff Reeb, Jake Herman, Logan Thomsen, Jerry Roth, Rod Norrie.

Graveside services were conducted following the funeral service at the Geneva Public Cemetery in Geneva.

In place of flowers - Memorials were directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
