Robert (Bob) Boehm Messerli, 94, of Edgar, passed away Jan. 10, 2026, in Deshler. The son of Pauline and Edward Messerli was born on Sept. 28, 1931, in Council Bluffs, IA.

Bob was raised in lowa, alongside his two brothers and one sister. He attended Underwood Consolidated High School where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. Bob and Carolyn were married on Feb. 8, 1952. Bob was drafted into the Army and served our country during the Korean War in Germany.

Their first home was in Council Bluffs, IA, where Paula, Peggy, and Timothy were born. They lived in Underwood, IA for several years. The next move was to Staplehurst, then to Edgar in 1962. Their family grew as Tad, Ty, and Trudy were born. Throughout his career, Bob held diverse roles. He drove a milk truck and worked in elevators and at Safeway. He drove a school bus and sold insurance. He ran a gas station and even owned his own siding and insulation business. He was a coach for several kids, coaching baseball, and softball. He retired in 2007, after serving as a dedicated rural mail carrier for several years. He enjoyed playing softball and was in a bowling league. He liked to go fishing. He enjoyed playing Euchre and having coffee with friends.

Survivors include his children: Paula (Craig) Johnson of Independence, MO, Peggy (Roger) Rumsey of Oak, Tim Messerli of Edgar, Tad Messerli of Edgar, Ty Messerli of Kearney, Trudy (Jon) Kamler of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Andrew (Holly) Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Joseph (Caylee) Johnson, Anna (Chanler) Sechrest, Isaiah (Rachel) Johnson, Amos (Melissa) Johnson, Emily Applegate, Kelsey (Anthony) Osborn, Andrea (Curt) Gosser, and Josie Kamler; great-grandchildren: Charli, Kalli, Samuel, Kaiden, Carter, Haven, Mylo, Wade, Elsie, Norah, Ruth, Florence, Chloe, Everett, Emmett, Odin, and Kirby, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, and 9-11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Williams & Kuehn Funeral Home in Edgar. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at the Edgar Cemetery.
