William “Bill” Louis Schlichtman

William “Bill” Louis Schlichtman
William “Bill” Louis Schlichtman, age 91, passed away on Jan. 29, 2026 at Parkview Haven in Deshler. He was born July 9, 1934, in Angus, to Louis and Beulah (Cottle) Schlichtman.
Bill graduated from Edgar High School in 1951. Following graduation, he went to work alongside his father and devoted his life to farming, a vocation he pursued with pride and dedication for many years.
On Dec. 28, 1954, Bill was united in marriage to Maxine Overturf near Clay Center. To this union, three children were born: Larry, Dana, and Robert. Maxine preceded him in death in July 1987. Bill later found companionship again and married Peg Shuck Feb. 14, 1991 in Valentine. Bill was a faithful member of the Church of the Plains and was known as a good Christian man whose values guided the way he lived, worked, and treated others. He also belonged to the Sons of the American Legion, an organization he was proud to be apart of. His involvement in the Edgar Fire Department reflected his willingness to serve and support his community. He also was a long time member of Central Nebraska Cattleman, Edgar Lions Club, and Superior Elks Club. Bill was known for living life fully and enjoying the company of his friends and family. He especially loved his bowling league, golfing, attending rodeos, working on dirt track racing cars, and watching races. A devoted “snowbird,” Bill spent his winters enjoying the warmth and sun in Arizona, where—just as back home—he was famous for hosting Happy Hour gatherings filled with friends, laughter, stories, and good drinks.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Larry Schlichtman and his fiancé Tammy of Davenport, Robert (Beth) Schlichtman of Edgar; sister, Beverly (Duane) Elting of Deshler, NE; grandchildren, Maggie, Austin, Chelby, and James; great-grandchildren, Beckman and Calvin; a host of extended family and friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Beulah Schlichtman; first wife, Maxine Schlichtman; second wife, Peg Schlichtman; daughter, Dana Moss; and a sister, Shirley Mulinix It can be said that “it’s 5’oclock somewhere” perfectly sums up Bill’s outlook on life—a phrase that captured his easygoing spirit, love of friendship, and appreciation for the moment. In Bill’s passing we can all find solace in the fact that now, for Bill, it really is always 5 o’clock somewhere.
