Hastings resident Carolyn (Carol) A. Hamburger, 71, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare.
Carol was born July 22, 1954, in Hastings to Dale and Shirley (Adams) Kiiker. They lived in Hastings until the summer of 1969, when her family moved to a farm outside of Trumbull, where she graduated from high school in 1972.
On Jan. 22, 1977, she married Tom Hamburger. With their two sons, James (Jamey) Hamburger and Jeffrey (Jeff) Hamburger, they made their home in Harvard. The couple later divorced.
Carol was active in all of her son’s activities through their school years and was also active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and bible school. Carol had many jobs, but her favorites were cooking at Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard Public School, CCC, and being a mom. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating through her whole life with many joyful times at Harlan Lake. She enjoyed reading and was the designated family photographer.
Later in life, she loved playing cards, fishing on the river, and going on rides with her partner, Dave, on his Harley.
Carol was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the DAV Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Shirley Kiiker; and her beloved Pomeranian, Kia.
Survivors include longtime partner, Dave White; sons and spouses, Jamey (Brian Simpson) Hamburger, and Jeff (Stacie) Hamburger; grandsons, Jeremy (Brianna) Buchanan, and Jamen Hamburger; brother, Ron (Sheila) Kiiker of Doniphan; sisters, Sandy Brophy (Robert) of Harvard, and Laurie (Rick) Jarzynka of Harvard; and great-granddaughter, Piper Buchanan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Services were held Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. Interment followed at Parkview Cemetery. Visitation with the family present was Sunday, May 3, from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. The service was live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website.
