The family of Tad Edward Messerli, 59, announces his death on May 13, 2026, in Edgar. The son of Robert (Bob) and Carolyn Messerli was born Dec. 20, 1966, in Superior. He was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, brother, cousin, uncle and friend.

Tad was raised in Edgar and lived there all his life. He attended Edgar Elementary School and Sandy Creek Jr. Sr. High School, graduating with the class of 1985. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Tad attended Central Community College in Hastings and obtained an associate’s degree in business. He had several careers during his life. He worked for the family business siding and insulating houses. He was a substitute rural mail carrier. He worked at AGP for many years as the Safety Coordinator. He enjoyed his most recent employment at the Shaw Chicken Ranch. Tad didn’t just enjoy the places where he worked, but the people that he worked with. He was a very caring person. He cared for his family and especially his dad, while in the nursing home. He was always there to help his family and friends.

Tad enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and board games, cooking, and baking. He played baseball and softball and was on a bowling league. He loved his dogs and enjoyed their companionship. He was a favorite with his nieces and nephews, telling jokes, and sharing stories. He enjoyed fantasy football and was a Huskers, and Green Bay Packers fan.

Tad was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. Survivors include his brothers, Tim Messerli of Edgar, and Ty Messerli of Kearney; sisters, Paula (Craig) Johnson of Independence, MO, Peggy (Roger) Rumsey of Oak, and Trudy (Jon) Kamler of San Antonio, TX; nieces and nephews: Andrew (Holly) Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Joseph (Caylee) Johnson, Anna (Chanler) Sechrest, Isaiah (Rachel) Johnson, Amos (Melissa) Johnson, Emily Applegate, Kelsey (Anthony) Osborn, Andrea (Curt) Gosser, and Josie Kamler; great-nieces and nephews: Charli, Kalli, Samuel, Kaiden, Carter, Haven, Mylo, Wade, Elsie, Norah, Ruth, Florence, Jude, Chloe, Everett, Emmett, Odin, and Kirby; cousins; and a host of friends.

Visitation and family receiving friends was Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 5-7 p.m., at the Williams & Kuehn Funeral Home in Edgar. Funeral services were Monday, May 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home in Edgar.

Memorials are suggested to the Tad Messerli Memorial Fund for the family to designate at a later date and may be sent in care of Williams & Kuehn Funeral Home, 241 West 4th Ave., Red Cloud, NE 68970.
