Eugenia Swanson
Eugenia Swanson

Eugenia Fern Swanson was born to Wesley and Fern Jacobs on April 23, 1926, in Edgar, and departed into heaven on May 18, 2026, while living at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Superior.
She attended the Edgar Public Schools until, she was 14, when the family moved to southern Missouri. There she met Jim Kirk, and after graduation they were married. To this union three children were born: Deanna Jean, Deborah Jane, and Robert James. In 1951, she and the children moved back to Edgar and in 1953 she had a son, Richard Eugene. Eugenia was employed at the Edgar Café for a few years and at Powell’s Grocery. In November of 1963 she married Philip Clyde Shaw. He adopted all four children and they all moved to the farm between Edgar and Deweese. Seven years later they adopted another son, Michel John. In July of 1987, Clyde died of a heart attack. On Jan. 1, 1989, she married a lifelong friend, Robert Swanson, and they resided in Edgar. Robert preceded her in death, and she continued to live in Edgar until Sept. 9, 2022, at which time she moved to Superior Good Samaritan.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Edgar. Eugenia was active in the church as a long-time deacon and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She was also a long-time member of the West Buffalo Club in the Edgar, Fairfield, and Deweese area. Eugenia also had a weekly program called Jean’s Travel’s at the Edgar Community Home which she truly enjoyed for several years. After “slowing down a little”, as she called it, she continued to babysit many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three husbands; son, Michel; grandson, Justin Shaw; granddaughter, Kathleen Thompson; and brother, Wesley Jr.
Left to celebrate her life are her children, Jack and Deanna Schneider of Imperial, Gary and Deborah Schmer of rural Sutton, Robert Shaw of Lincoln, Dick and Sherry Shaw of rural Fairfield; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Per Eugenia’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral services. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Edgar Fire and Rescue or donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Williams & Kuehn Funeral Homes, 241 West 4th Ave., Red Cloud, NE 68970.
