Dennis Edward Ulmer passed away peacefully Saturday, June 13, 2026, at his home near Haxtun, CO, with his wife of 34 years at his side.

Dennis was born Nov. 14, 1942, in York to Edward and Josephine (Steckman) Ulmer. He graduated from Sutton Public Schools in 1960 and continued his education for a year at the University of Nebraska.

Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served on active duty from 1961 to 1963 on the USS Hornet, and in the Navy Reserves until 1967 as a Petty Officer Third Class. he traveled to many ports in the Pacific, including the Philippines, Japan, Guam, and Hawaii.

Dennis returned home to farm alongside his father south of Sutton, later continuing that work in Haxtun, CO. After selling the farm in 2006, he went on to work at the Larry Anderson Family Farm north of Haxtun, where he served as a truck driver, mechanic, and trusted farmhand.

Dennis loved oldies music, coin collecting, old radios, playing cards with family and reminiscing with his high school classmates and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters, Michelle (Robert) Spanyard and Marla (Kevin) Merrill, Tucson, AZ; son, Jason (Naomi), Colorado Springs, CO; stepchildren: Travis, Haxtun, CO, Trevor (Brandy), Kersey, CO, Tennille Allen, Haxtun, CO; sisters, Julie (Robert) Parkerson, Tucson, AZ, and Carol (Jerry) Erickson, Sutton; brother-in-law, David Landstrom (tina), San Carlos, Sonora, MX; grandshildren, hailey and Sydney Merrill, Gage (Hope), and Syra; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Josephine.

Dennis battled chronic leukemia for 10 years before succumbing to the disease.

Graveside services will be at the Haxtun Cemetery, date pending.
