Fairfield resident Lynn M. Laaker, 71, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Mary Lanning Health Care, surrounded by family after a nearly five-month battle with lung cancer.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial was at the Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service was live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Lynn was born Oct. 11, 1954, to Gordon and Helen (Slagle) Whitmore in Wahoo. She grew up in Yutan and graduated from Yutan High School in 1972. On Sept. 8, 1973, she married Richard (Dick) Laaker in Fremont. To this union two children were born. Richard preceded her in death on July 3, 2020.

Lynn worked at Armour Foods in Hastings as well as Good Samaritan Village in Hastings until she retired in 2020. Upon retirement, she started working at Ken & Als in Fairfield, which later became C & M Supply. This job was very special to her as she was able to see lots of local faces and socialize, allowing her to keep up on the happenings around town. Those who knew Lynn knew she was the queen of one-liners and was always going to give you a hard time. She was always there to put a smile on your face.

Lynn is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Lawrence and Marion Laaker; brother, Eugene Whitmore; and brother-in-law, Leroy Laaker.

Survivors include children: Scott and Roberta Laaker of Deshler and Theresa (Terri) and Brian Mangers of Juniata; grandchildren: Brenton Laaker, Kylie Mangers, Kaleb Mangers, Colt Laaker, Cooper Laaker, Casey Laaker, and Chase Laaker; sister, Susan Whitmore of Yutan; brother, William Whitmore of Omaha; sisters-in-law and spouses, Ann and Robert Babcock of Sun City, AZ, Mary and Herman Tenhoff of Kearney, and Kathleen laaker of Arlington, NE; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
