February 28, 1936 - July 26, 2026

Carol Lou May Hanger was the only child born to H.E. “Dude” May and Katherine (Kellogg) May on Feb. 28, 1936, in Hendley, and passed away July 26, 2026, in Sutton at the age of 90. Carol earned a teaching certificate from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln and taught in various schools in the Lincoln area. Later she was also a bookkeeper and retired as a legal secretary in Hastings. Upon retirement, Carol continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health Science from Hastings College. Carol was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling and music, but most of all, supporting and watching her grandchildren participate in various artistic and athletic activities.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Hanger, of Sutton; children: Jeffrey White of Lincoln, Jennifer and Richard Elsberry of Neleigh, Jay and Kimberly White of Columbus, Jamie and Chris White of Aurora, Jill and Dave Kelley of Hastings, Jason and Teresa White of Broken Bow, Ted and Billee Hanger of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Carol was Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Bill Richards presided over the funeral service.

The recorded song selections included “How Great Thou Art” and “I’ll Fly Away” by Alan Jackson.

Pallbearers included Chase Hanger, Coen Hanger, Michell White, Alex White, Eric White, and Matthew White. Honorary pallbearers included all of the Carol’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at the Sutton Cemetery following the funeral service.

Memorials are suggested to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation or the Sutton Community Home.
