Tim was born April 5, 1956, in Hastings to Alvin Gerald DeJung and Marilyn Ann (Buttell) (DeJung) Zurmiller. The family lived on a farm near Saronville before moving to Clay Center, where Tim attended elementary school and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1975. Tim was a gifted athlete. He competed in football, basketball, and track for the Clay Center Wildcats. He was a talented pitcher, playing summer Legion baseball and later, left field with The Bandits men’s slow-pitch softball team. Tim enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting and being on a lake in his boat with a fishing pole. Golf, however, was his lifelong favorite sport. The challenge …a day with a golf club in hand was a good day.

Tim was a hard worker from a young age. He worked for a mechanic, on family farms, as a journeyman, and for Aurora Co-op in Clay Center. Over the years, he learned how to repair, rig, or build whatever needed to be done.

In 2006, Tim moved to Omaha and married Martha “Martye” Graham. From 2008, until his passing, Tim was employed by the Papillion-La Vista Community Schools, where he cared for the grounds and sports facilities located at Papillion-La Vista South High School. He truly loved the job, the staff, the coaches, his co-workers and being around the student athletes. “Once a Titan, Always a Titan” was taken to heart. Tim was very proud to be a part of that family.

Anyone who knew Tim knew he could be a little grumpy or cantankerous at times. He had opinions and he shared them. What you saw was what you got; including ribbing, a helping hand, loyalty and that handsome crooked smile.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Marvin Zurmiller; mother-in-law, Mary Belle Graham; sister, Kathryn Scott; brother, Steve DeJung; brother-in-law, Rod Ratzlaff; and sister, Pat Ratzlaff.

Tim is survived by his wife, Martye of Omaha; siblings, Donna and Todd Deines of Fairfield, Kenneth and Bonnie DeJung of Hogansburg, NY, and Sandra DeJung of Grand Island; aunt, Peggy Huffman of Elida, OH; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, the Schmidt family; wonderful friends; and Martye’s brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who also loved him dearly.
