For the first time in recent seasons, it was Cardinals versus Cougars, as Harvard hosted Sandy Creek Jan. 5, sending the Cougars home with their first win of the season.
Despite Harvard earning the first basket of the night, it was Sandy Creek who grabbed the lead, ending the first quarter 8-3.
A close second-quarter run by both teams allowed SC to keep the lead heading into halftime, but gave Harvard an advantage to overcome the Cougars, ending the second quarter, 11-8, SC.
A series of layups by Harvard pushed the host team ahead by four at the end of the third quarter, 18-14, as the Cards earned 10 points with SC only sinking three.
However, it would be the final period of the game where the Cougars came alive, earning 13 points over Harvard’s three, and ultimately giving them their first ‘W’ of the season with the 27-21 win.
