The Class C-2 fifth ranked Sutton Mustangs used the legs of senior running back Jackson Perrien and a stealthy defensive effort to put itself in the drivers seat of the C2-5 District title in Doniphan Friday night. The Mustangs, behind 204 rushing yards from Perrien, staved off Doniphan-Trumbull to improve to 5-0, while dropping the Cardinals to 4-1 with a 22-16 road win.

Sutton posted eight points in each of the first and second quarters, as Perrien scored twice in the win, with his fourth quarter four-yard touchdown that would give Sutton the six-point cushion and eventual win.

Sutton’s passing game would see junior quarterback Cade Wiseman go 3-6 for 36 yards, with one of those completions being a 27-yard touchdown pass to senior Maury Bautista in the first half.

Sutton’s defense allowed two long D-T scoring drives in the second quarter, covering over 65 yards on each drive, but that would be all that the Mustangs would allow to help secure the win.

Cards trounce Lewiston 72-21

In typical fashion, the Harvard Cardinals wasted very little time to show the Lewiston Tigers why the Cardinals are the top-ranked six-man football team in the State of Nebraska, as Harvard, behind runs of 30-0 in the first quarter and 20-0 in the second period would race out to a 50-0 halftime lead, and outscore the Tigers 22-21 in the second half, to post a 72-21 win in non-district action for the Cardinals.

Havard posted three rushing scores in the first frame and added a passing score for the early 30-0 lead.

David Reazola scored twice on the ground with scores from 41 and three-yards out to open the game.

Freshman Noah Roberts then hit Reazola for a 73-yard touchdown pass midway through the first period, before Ryan Harms set sail on a 22-yard touchdown run to gain the 30-point lead at the end of the first.

Christian Shearer-Akerly (71) and Rodney McDonald (13) swarm this Fillmore Central back during the Cougars’ 18-13 homecoming loss to the Panthers Friday night.

BY ASHLEY D. SWANSON

The term “it’s anyone’s ballgame” was the definition of Friday’s football game between Sandy Creek and Fillmore Central, where the Panthers narrowly took an 18-13 win in the final minute of the game.

Sandy Creek’s defense was on high guard, making it difficult for FC to get anywhere near the end zone; however, the Panthers weren’t making it any easier for the Cougars.

The first quarter breezed by without either team scoring a touchdown. Going into the second quarter, it looked as if the first half would end in a scoreless tie, before FC secured six points at the 4:42 mark on an 11-yard touchdown run, claiming a 6-0 lead after Sandy Creek blocked the extra point kick.
