No matter where you position yourself on the field or court, they find you.

It’s kind of like they have a magnet in them that’s only attracted to your camera.

I’m talking about referees. And I’m not kidding about the seemingly invisible magnet in them that’s only attracted to your camera.

Photographers understand—or they shouldthat you are a bystander, a person capturing moments of a game, and although you are doing your job and trying to stay out of everyone’s way, they are also doing their job by refereeing a game.

Week in and week out, the activities and events that we cover across Clay County can fill my mind with lots of thoughts... guess what? This week was no different.

This week held a couple of “first time for everything,” if you will.

Key highlights filling my mind began Thursday, as a panelist and breakout session presentor at the Sutton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Career Exploration Day, held in part with the Sutton Public Schools.

My first Old Trusty Days was five years ago, and when I saw the list of upcoming shows, noting 2019 featured John Deere and 2020 featured Alice Chalmers, I was pumped!

Fast forward five years and finally it’s John Deere’s turn. JD and AC are my two favorite tractors; my first-ever tractor was an AC.

However, although I was excited to see the north side of the fairgrounds decked out in JD tractors, I was excited to see people I haven’t seen in a while, but also meet new people and hear their stories.

I’m a sucker for history—I blame my parents. I love anything antique and hearing stories from people who have been around the block a few times. Old Trusty was easily added to my top five favorite events to attend and cover in the county.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a magic wand. To be able to redirect life as it passes by, maybe tweak or change a few things.

If I had a magic wand, one of the first things I would do is help people understand how important a community newspaper is and more than that, how important it is to be connected with that community newspaper.

Even more so, if I had a magic wand I would want to strengthen what a community bond truly is!

And by community, I do mean each and every small town; it doesn’t matter if it’s 50 people or 1,500 people, if I had a magic wand I would like to ensure people within that small town how newspapers truly do matter and it’s important to keep in touch with us.

According to all the mom’s that were in the room (and a confirmed Google search) rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck in your marriage.

When the household work up Saturday morning to prepare for Jordyn and Ty’s wedding, it was downpouring, and continued sprinkling and pelting St. Paul and the surrounding area with rain for most of the day.

One of my favorite parts of any wedding when I’m either part of the bridal party or the photographer are the behind-the-scene moments.

Those moments before the ushers start seating people, before the bride walks down the isle, before they are pronounced husband and wife, and before the after party begins.

BULL

Looking back over the many years of covering school events, even back to my days of playing or participating in school activities, the sights and sounds of fall sports and activities is once again upon us all.

It’s time to hit the road running, as this is the week that most all of the activities of a new school year kickoff.

While school has been in full gear for a couple of weeks, volleyball teams, cross country teams, football teams and so many other activities within our schools begin what is a a full nine months of action, ready or not....It’s here!

While it is nice to have a few months of downtime (if you can call it downtime) during the summer months, this week the fall sports teams get into competative mode, with all three volleyball and football teams in Clay County hitting the court or the field, while the two cross country teams will swing into action next week sending the 2019-20 school year into full action mode.
