Clay County Fair Begins this Week

One hundred and forty-four years of 4-H projects, activities, learning and fun, will bring about another year of the Clay County Fair, set for July 7-10 in Clay Center.
Thursday, July 7:
July 7 will begin at 11 a.m., with the poultry show, followed by the rabbit show at 2:30 p.m. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., will be the annual bucket calf show, while across the fairgrounds, the Skylarks Airplane Show will commence.
The kids pedal pull tractor pull will begin at 7 p.m., with family fun night following just 30 minutes later. Thursday will end with mutton busting at 7:45 p.m.
Friday, July 8:
The swine show will kickoff Friday, starting at 8 a.m., followed by the horse show at 11:30 a.m.

Harvard Council Discusses Hiring of New Police Chief

Discussion for a new police chief in Harvard was tabled until the next meeting, to give more time to council members before making a final decision. Following the retirement of Greg Thompson in May, Harvard has been without a chief and an officer. After they announced a recommendation, some council members said they would liked to have seen a decision made during the meeting.

Roemmich Retires from Postal Service

Thea Roemmich has been a fixture at the Saronville Post Office for nearly 25 years. On Thursday, June 30, Roemmich said goodbye to her working days at the post office and said hello to full-time retirement.

Clay Center 4th of July Celebration this Weekend

With a “Proud Past and Promising Future,” Clay Center is set for another Fourth of July celebration. This year’s celebration will stretch over a three-day period, beginning on Saturday, July 2, with a street dance in front of the American Legion. Beer Money will serve as the evening’s entertainment.

Sutton Council Passes New Dog Ordinance

A full agenda faced the Sutton City Council during their June meeting held this month on Monday, June 27.A public hearing kicked off the new business portion of the meeting, with council members approving the clean up properties of what were considered nuisance properties in Sutton.
