Stanley P. Steinhauer Sept. 1, 1928 - Feb. 15, 2017

Sutton resident, Stanley P. Steinhauer, 88, passed away Wednesday, Feb.15, 2017, at the Henderson Health Care Hospital in Henderson, NE. Stan’s wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family 2340 Road 321; Sutton, NE 68979 to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial.com. Stanley was born on Sept. 1, 1928, to Phillip Jr. and Marie (Campbell) Steinhauer on the Campbell farm just north of Sutton, NE. Stan attended Sutton Public Schools and graduated in 1946. He worked for Jacob Bender & Sons for a short time and farmed with his father. Stanley was united in marriage to Betty Nowka on March 4, 1954, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. To this union, three boys were born. Stan enjoyed farming and raising cattle with his boys, and the occasional cup of coffee at many of the local businesses throughout his day.

Clay Center resident, Doreta Jean Bailey, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb.14, 2017, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Jim Eads, in Clay Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, NE, with Rev. Bill Harrold and Rev. John Snyder officiating. Interment followed at the Edgar Cemetery in Edgar, NE. Visitation was Friday, from 1-8 p.m., with the family present from 7-8 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center, NE. Doreta grew up in Burchard, NE, where she graduated high school in 1945, at the age of 16. She married Max L. Bailey on May 11, 1947, in Pawnee City. They moved to Edgar, NE, before moving to Clay Center, NE, in 1953.

Harvard resident, Connie Hoagland, 66, passed away Wednesday, Feb.8, 2017, at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.

Services were Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the Harvard United Church of Christ, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Book signing was Monday, Feb.13, 2017 from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. at the Apfel Funeral Home, Harvard. Burial will be at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home, Harvard, is in charge of the arrangements. Roy Kliewer, age 67, of Stockham, NE, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Omaha, NE. He was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Aurora, NE, to Albert and Mary (Mierau) Kliewer. On Feb. 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Helen Schell, and to this union, two children were born. Roy attended schools in Stockham, NE, York, NE, and Henderson, NE. Roy and Helen owned and operated the Essan House in Henderson for 10 years. Roy worked for various farmers throughout his life and farmed with his son-in-law and grandson.

Lenora L. Kauk Feb. 13, 1916 - Jan. 14, 2017

Lenora (Hunzeker) Kauk, born Feb. 13, 1916, passed away Jan. 14, 2017, in Bakersfield, CA, just shy of her 101st birthday. She can now join her late husband, Raymond E. Kauk, who passed away on Aug. 18, 1986. Lenora is a graduate of the class of 1934 of Sutton High School, in Sutton, NE. Lenora is survived by her son, James S. Kauk of Bakersfield; and daughter, V. Karen Cottingham of Woodland Park, CO: grandchildren, Gary Kauk and granddaughter- in-law, Denay Kauk of Bakersfield; Kevin Kauk, of Bakersfield; and Tara L. Cottingham of Colorado Springs, CO; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Meagan and Jasmin. Lenora was an adult education teacher for many years in the art of textile painting. She was a member of the square dancers, Skirts and Flirts and the Joaquin Squares and Round Dancing, long into her 90th year of life. She leaves behind a legacy of wonderful art and a wonderful smile. She will be missed by all who knew her, but never forgotten.

Lincoln resident James D. Huber, 59, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln, NE. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE, with Rev. Joe Vusich officiating. No visitation was held. James was born Feb. 8, 1957, to Don A. and Lucille (Griess) Huber in Henderson, NE. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1975. On April 30, 1988, he was united in marriage to Jane E. Sutherland. To their union, two sons were born, Benjamin James and Daniel James. They made their home on the family farm near Sutton. James grew up farming and was the backbone of the farm.

Donald E. Shaw

Donald Eugene Shaw (of Edgar, NE) the son of Lewis Ivan and Elsie (Jester) Shaw, was born June 1, 1927, at Fairfield, NE. He departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at the Henderson Health Care Servces in Henderson, NE at the age of 89 years.

Don began his schooling at East Buffalo Country School south of Fairfield, NE, and graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1945. As a young child, Don moved with his family to Idaho in 1938 where they remained for three years before returning back to Nebraska to the Ong area. The family moved once again to a farm southeast Edgar.
