Sutton Jrs. Tournament Cut Short by Sunday Storms

Tournament action in Sutton would see the Sutton Junior Legion ball club split a pair of games, with Overton and Superior before the tournament was rained out Sunday afternoon. Saturday would see a huge day at the plate by Chandler Stone, guided Sutton to a 7-0 win over Overton, Stone was  a perfect 4-4 with two RBI’s to lead the locals to the opening game win of the tournament..

Harvard’s Dallas Doupnik Jr., shown above, earned a pinfall win overBlair High School’s Colton Gayer during  Saturday’s Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star dual held at Grand Island Senior High. At the left, Tyler Bailey,the honorary cocaptain of the Red team in the dual, battles with Class B state champion   Joe Berg of West Point-Beemer.

Geneva Blanks Edgar Seniors in Sutton Tourney

A tough go for the Edgar Seniors would be had in the first of two games in the Sutton Tournament. Due to over six inches of rainfall in the Sutton area, the tournament was only held on Sunday. Two hits would be all that the Edgar Seniors could muster up in a 10-0 loss at the hands of Geneva.

Sutton’s Johnson Leads South Squad in Rushing

Sutton’s Noah Johnson, the second Mustang in as many years to be selected to play in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl, found himself on a team that used the aerial attack in a big way to win the 57th annual Shrine Bowl held in Kearney this past Saturday. The South passed their way to a huge 31-6 halftime lead behind the hands of the Shrine Bowl’s Most Valuable Player, Conor Young of Cozad High School.

Bailey Family to be Honored by NSWCA

Tyler Bailey, a 2015 graduate of Sutton High School and the 2015 Class C 132 pound state wrestling champion, and his family will be honored this Friday night by the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association during their 34th annual Hall Of Fame banquet held at the Borders Inn and Suites in Grand Island ,beginning at 5 p.m.

Edgar’s Jarosik Wins Half Marathon

Edgar’s Nate Jarosik dominated the 2015 Hastings Half Marathon this past Saturday morning, completing the 13.1 mile course in one hour, 17 minutes and 49 seconds. The 38-year-old Jarosik’s time would better second place finisher Jordan Potrzeba of Hastings, who finished the event in 1:21:30. In addition to Jarosik’s win, nine other Clay County runners also took part in the annual event.

Shrine Bowl Set for Saturday at UNK; Johnson on South Team

Sutton’s Noah Johnson will be one of 70 high school seniors from around Nebraska to play in the 57th Annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl. The game will be played at the Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on
June 6, 2015, at 2 p.m. This will be the third consecutive year that the Shrine Bowl game will be played at Cope Stadium.

Sutton Golf Team Has Tough Go at Class C State Tournament

Sutton’s boys golf team, a third place finisher in district meet action a week prior to the 2015 Class C State Golf Championships, would see state tournament action be a tough go for the Sutton five. The Mustangs wrapped up the two-day tournament in 13th place overall, shooting a 687 over the course of the two days.

Lemkau is State Runner- Up in Class C Long Jump

Senior Delaney Lemkau closed out her high school career with a bang this past Friday and Saturday, bringing home two medals from the 2015 Nebraska State High School Track and Field Championships in Omaha. Lemkau opened action in Omaha with a state runner-up performance in the long jump, placing second behind Twin River jumper Sara Czarnick.
