Lipovsky is State Champ in Triple Jump

Sandy Creek senior Brendan Lipovsky fought off some early worries after fouling on his first two attempts in the triple jump. He posted a huge 45’ 9” leap win the 2015 Class C state triple jump gold medal during action at the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships. Mustang Golf Team Headed to State

The Sutton Mustangs golf team will be making another trip to state golf as a team. The Mustangs earned a third place team finish in the C-4 District Meet held at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island Tuesday.
Coach Jordan Engle and his Mustang five will take on the field in the Class C State Golf Meet this coming Wednesday and Thursday, May 27 and 28, at Holmes Golf Course in Lincoln.
The Holmes course is located at 3701 S. 70th Street in Lincoln.
Drew Steinhauer would be the lone medalist for the Mustangs in the district, placing 10th overall with an 82. Steinhauer would open play with a 40 on his first nine holes, then finish up play with a 42 on the back nine to gain the final individual medal of the district.
Ord’s Brady Rogers edged out Grand Island Central Catholic golfer Eshan Sood for top individual honors.

Mustangs Head to Omaha in Seven Events

Junior Garrett Clark and two huge performances in the 3,200 and 1,600 meter relays would headline the day for the Sutton boys track team May 14, as they battled one of the stingiest Class C boys districts in the state at Thayer Central High School in Hebron. Clark was solid gold in both the discus and shot put to advance to state in both. The tworelays, although the Mustangs were third in the 3,200 meter relay and second in the 1,600 meter relay, would both put up gutsy performances in each event. Clark Wins Throwing Events

Relay Record Shattered at Harvard

As the old story goes, when you put your mind to something, you can achieve goals with hard work, sheer guts and a not-to-be-denied attitude. Thursday, that is exactly what took place, as the Harvard girls track team headed to Sandy Creek High School for the C-9 District track and field meet. As the track portion of the meet kicked off, the Harvard girls 3,200 meter relay team, made up by Carleigh Novak, Kesley Griess, Cassie Roberts and Alyssa Novak, according to coach Scott Trimble, had the moxie to advance to the state track and field championships. They all new it would take a special effort to knock off, what many thought  to be the favorites, either Hastings St. Cecilia or Doniphan-Trumbull.

Powered by all four of their golfers placing in the top 10 of the 2015 Southern Nebraska Golf tournament, the Thayer Central golf team would run away with the team title last Thursday in action on the Henderson golf course.

Sutton Boys Score 127 Points at Home

Junior Garrett Clark once again jump started the day for the Sutton Mustangs track team, winning two of four gold medals on the day, in the discus and shot put. This accounted for 20 of the Mustangs 127 points during the Sutton Invitational May 7.

Wiseman Leads Sutton Juniors at State Trap Shoot

Sutton’s Hunter Wiseman, a steady shooter throughout the conference trap shooting season at the Crooked Creek Gun Club near Stockham, took his shooting prowess to the 46th Annual Cornhusker State Trapshooting Championships in Doniphan this past weekend. He came up big, placing 10th overall among well over 900 shooters during the juniors competition Thursday, April 30. Wiseman was Mr. Consistent during the shoot, as he would connect on 24 of 25 shots in each of the four rounds, eventually recording his feat of shattering 96 of 100 targets to earn him a Top 10 medal.

Lemkau Earns Four Golds at SNC

Senior Delaney Lemkau would account for 40 of the Sutton Fillies’ 57 points Saturday, during the running of the 2015 Southern Nebraska Conference track and field championships. Lemkau’s huge day would help lead Sutton to a fifth place finish, trailing fourth place Sandy Creek by six points and edging out Milford for the fifth spot by one point. Wilber-Clatonia and Superior would lead the team race, as the Lady Wolverines held an 84-76 scoring

Harvard Power Drive Team Battles Weather, Field at Hastings Power Drive Rally

Student drivers in last Saturday’s Power Drive endurance rally faced competition not only from participating schools, but also the weather, which proved to be a challenge with a damp track combined with cold and windy conditions.

Cougars Earn Gold in Four Events at Superior

Four gold medal performances would pace the Sandy Creek boys track team in action at the Superior Invitational held April 21. The Cougars, in the end, placed third in the final team standings, scoring 91 points. Hastings St. Cecilia outscored Thayer Central for the team title, 164-139.
