Morris, Van Kirk Wrap up Career’s

Article Image Alt Text

Four years, 119 wins against just 21 losses. Two Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Player of the Year honors and in the end, 2011 Sandy Creek graduate Bailey Morris wrapped up her college career with Concordia University just two points shy of an NAIA Division II National Championship on Tuesday, March 17. Morris’ career with the Bulldogs could easily be termed as out of this world. Despite falling two points short of the national championship, falling to GPAC foe Morningside, 59-57. Morris, was however, tabbed with the highest individual honor a player can achieve in the NAIA, earning the Division II National Player of the Year. In addition, Morris was also named an NAIA All-American for the second straight year for her play on the court both as a junior and senior. What Morris did during her four years at Concordia was nothing short of amazing.

Aquinas Flys Past Sutton in C2-2 Final

Article Image Alt Text

The Sutton Mustangs ran into a buzz-saw of sorts Monday night as the Sutton crew entered the C2-2 District Final at Concordia University in Seward.  That buzz-saw came in the form of the Aquinas Catholic  Monarchs and their speedy pointguard  Trev Semrad. The Monarchs, led by Semrad’s 24 points, used a huge suffocating 1-3-1 trapping defense to force 20 Sutton turnovers and produce a 63-36 win to advance to the Class C-2 state tournament. Sutton ended their season, following the loss, with a 16-10 record.

Sutton vs. Freeman

Article Image Alt Text

The Sutton Fillies and Freeman Falcons may have over 80 miles that separate the two schools, but these two  teams are certainly very familiar with each other. Freeman would down the Fillies in the opening round of the 2014 Class C-2 State Volleyball Championships back on Nov. 13, upending the Fillies in four sets before going on to defeat Crofton in four sets to win the Class C-2 State Championship. Sutton and Freeman would then square off six weeks later, this time on the basketball court. Paced by a 33-22 second half run, Freeman took a 15-14 halftime lead and expanded it to 12 points when the final buzzer sounded, beating the Fillies 48-36 in the finals of the Freeman Holiday Tournament on the Falcons’ home court in Adams.
