Sutton resident Anna Marie Griess, 87, passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at her home in Sutton.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, with Rev. Scott Henry officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton

Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 17, from 1-7 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Anna Marie was born June 9, 1934, in Saronville to Carl C. and Clarice (Griess) Griess. She attended country school until the eighth grade. Growing up she herded and milked cows on the family farm. On Aug. 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Curtis N. Griess. Anna Marie was a homemaker and worked at the Sutton Sale Barn in the kitchen and as a clerk. She was the best pie and Kuchen baker in the area.

She was a member of Hope Reformed Church and the Sutton Community Home Auxiliary. Anna Marie loved to shop; her legs may have been short but not many could keep up with her while shopping. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Curt, and playing cards with friends.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Patti) Griess of Sutton; Patty (Alan) Carriker of Phillips; and Teresa (Galyn) Stubbs of Elm Creek; grandchildren, Andy (Sarah) Griess; Cory (Abbey) Griess; Tyler (Chyanne) Griess; Jennifer (Floyd) Archie; Casey (Janet) Carriker; Kayla (Cale) Wiarda; Wyatt (Jessica) Stubbs; and Sydney (Corey) Barron; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Griess of Sutton; and Gertie Nuss of Sutton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis N.; parents, Carl C. and Clarice Griess; brothers, Evon and Paul; and sister, Leota.
