Lawrence Lynn Lohmeier of Rawlings, MD passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at Sterling Care Assisted Living in Frostburg.

Born in Sutton on July 19, 1935, he was the son of Samuel and Marie (Ferry) Lohmeier.

In addition to his parents and 11 siblings, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth (Svoboda) Lohmeier, on July 20, 2016.

After attending high school in Sutton, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

He began his career as a military policeman.

His first assignment was in Japan, but he was transferred back mid-tour to Lincoln after the death of his mother.

While stationed in Lincoln, he met his wife, Mary.

On June 1, 1957, Larry and Mary were married in Weston, NE and started a life together full of adventure.

While in Lincoln, Larry began his training to become an OSI agent for the Air Force. During this tour, they had two daughters, Cindy and Kay.

Larry’s next military assignments took them to Wichita, KS and two years later this family of four ventured off to London, England, for a three-year tour, where their son, Larry II, was born.

The family of five then spent two years in Seattle, WA.

While in Seattle, Larry was sent to Vietnam during the war for a year tour.

Following this tour, their next assignments were Denver, CO and Cumberland, MD where their youngest son, Tony, was born.

After serving his country for 20-plus years, Larry retired from the USAF, and he and Mary remained in Maryland for the rest of their lives.

Larry received several medals while serving in the Air Force, the most notable being The Bronze Star for his meritorious service for military operations in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.

After retiring from the Air Force, Larry bought a country store (Larry and Mary’s Grocery) in Rawlings.

They sold the store 10 years later, and he started selling insurance for Knights of Columbus.

He ended his work career by conducting audits for insurance companies.

Larry was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown, MD.

He enjoyed being an active member of Bishop Walsh Athletic Association, Knights of Columbus, and Alhambra.

Volunteering for these organizations is where he and his wife met many of their long-time friends.

These friends were a very important part of their lives.

Larry was an avid supporter of the University of Nebraska Football Team.

He was often seen sporting a hat or T-shirt with a big red “N” showing his pride.

He was also a member of Gobler’s Knob (now Four Sisters) golf course, where he spent many long hours golfing and socializing with his friends.

Larry’s family extends a special thanks to Sterling Care Assisted Living staff, where Larry spent the last seven years of his life.

We can’t say enough about the dignity, grace and much compassion the entire staff gave to our dad, especially during COVID when we could not be with him.

For this we will be forever grateful.

Larry is survived by his loving children, Cindy Palumbo and her husband, Frank, of Rawlings, MD, Kay Arnold and her husband, Doug, of Pickerington, OH, Larry Lohmeier and his wife, Kim, of Lafayette, IN, and Tony Lohmeier and his wife, Carol, of Bryn Mawr, PA; grandchildren, Neal Marsh and his wife, Michelle, Nick Marsh and his wife, Kristin, Jessica Palumbo and her fiancé, Miguel, Jennifer Palumbo and her fiancé, Matt, Christian Arnold, Drew Arnold, Mitchell Lohmeier, and Jack Lohmeier; two great-grandchildren, Waylon VanMeter and Olive Evans.
