Norma Mau

Sutton resident Norma Marie Mau, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Norma Marie Mau, daughter of Martin and Marie (Schleiger) Mau was born on a farm near Harvard March 25, 1935. In 1945, the family moved to a farm west of Sutton. In 1955, they moved to a home in Sutton. She continued to reside in Sutton the remainder of her life. Norma attended country school District 41 until December 1945 when her family moved to the farm west of Sutton. There she attended country school District 9 through the seventh grade when the school closed. Norma graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1953. During her lifetime, she worked at several businesses in Sutton including the Carlsgaard Drive-In, Lyric Theater, Grothe Pharmacy, Coast to Coast, Clay County News, owner of Norma’s Floral and Gift Shop for thirteen years, and at the Sutton Community Home for eighteen years. She was a member of the Federated Church and an active member of the Eastern Star in Sutton until it closed.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening, doing puzzles, cooking, and sports, especially Nebraska football.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Marie; brothers, Marvin, Duane, and three infant brothers; nephews, Edward, Donald, and Marvin Jr; and sisters-inlaw, Madeleine and Donna Mau.

Norma is survived by her sister-in-law, Roberta Mau; several nephews and nieces, many cousins, and a host of friends.

Private family graveside services were at the Sutton Cemetery May 9, 2023, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating.
