Eugene E. Liska, Jr., 78, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Legacy Square in Henderson.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial. com Eugene E. Liska, Jr., was born Oct. 23, 1944, in Seward , to Eugene E. Sr., and Rose (Jasa) Liska. He was the oldest of five children. Eugene grew up on a farm outside of Dwight, graduating from East Butler High School in the class of 1963. He then attended Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln earning his BA of Education in 1969 and his MA of Education in 1976. He accepted a teaching position in Clay Center, NE., in 1969, where he met and married his wife, Sherry Oswald, Aug. 8, 1970. They had two children, Amanda and Bradley. In 1969, Eugene was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served in Vietnam until his discharge in 1975. He then accepted a teaching position in Sutton where he spent his entire teaching career, until his retirement in 2011. He loved teaching the kids and all the families that he had a chance to see grow up in Sutton. Upon his retirement, he spent time helping Sherry in her daycare until she retired. The two of them then could be found on their front porch enjoying all their friends and neighbors. Gene enjoyed every minute of seeing and visiting with each and every person he could.

Eugene is survived by his children, Amanda (Carl) Ward of Riverton, IA; Bradley (Lisa) Liska of Lincoln; two granddaughters, Kennedy Walther (fiancé Tyler Apgar) of Omaha; Anjayleigh Ward of Riverton, IA; step-grandchildren, Charrose (Aus) Wirth of Tabor, IA; Cole Ward and Caitlyn Ward both of Rock Port, MO; and Chaylee Ward of Riverton, IA; brother, Danny (Barb) Liska of Seward; sisters, Carol Jean (Ed) Miller of Lincoln; Sharon (Steve) Skoda of Lincoln; Kathy (Jim) Smaus of Prague; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry, and his parents, Eugene E. Liska, Sr. and Rose Liska.
