Alvin Joseph Schutte, 68, of Hastings passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, with Father Hazuka officiating. Visitation with family will be at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings on Thursday, June 22, from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary to follow. Burial will be at a later date. Alvin was born March 29, 1955, to Otto and Dorothy (Arterburn) Schutte in Hastings. He attended and graduated from Sandy Creek High School. He was united in marriage to Linda Sue Peak on June 25, 1976, at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Hastings by Father Hain. He entered the United States National Guard in 1973, retiring in 1995 after 22 years of service. He worked at Garvey’s Elevator in Ayr for 13 years, then later worked at JM Eagle, retiring after 25 years.

Alvin loved his family and spent as much time with them as possible, especially his father-in-law, Gene, on the farm and with his mother-in-law making his favorite foods. He enjoyed watching the Colorado Buffaloes and Huskers play football, but would still spend countless hours in his garage working on cars or just tinkering.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Schutte; children: Katie Schutte-Jones, Josh (Kristi) Schutte; grandchildren: Jonathan Schutte all of Hastings and Hannah Jones of Elkhorn; sister, Pat Haskins; brothers: Calvin (Carmen) Schutte all of Pender and Richard Schutte of Colby, KS; brothers-in-law: Darryl Peak, Robert Coleman, Ron Dickerson, and Danny Sadd; sisters- in- law: Mary (Stan) Karash, Rosey (Frank) Graff, LeeAnn Schutte; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Gene and Catherine Peak; brothers: Larry Schutte, Vincent (Skeeter) Schutte, and Otto Jr. (Butch) Schutte; brother-inlaw, Perry Condry; sisters: Daisy Dickenson, Linda Sadd, Susie Condry, and Shirley Coleman; and nephew, Casey Quagliano.
