Donitta (Schriner) Sheridan was born Sept. 12, 1932, in rural Webster County, NE to Ella (Scharff) and Art Schriner of Riverton, NE. Donitta was the oldest of five children. She left the farm after completing the 8th grade at the age of 12 and moved to town, rented a room and worked various jobs at the local café, grocery store, and cleaned houses while she supported herself in order to complete high school. She graduated from Riverton High School in 1952, and moved to Hastings where she was employed by the Hastings Tribune and JM McDonalds store.

Donitta met Bill Sheridan of Sutton at a dance in Hastings. They were married Oct. 22, 1955, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Hastings and started their married life in rural Sutton. Donitta and Bill were married for 61 years before his death in August of 2017. Donitta and Bill had four children: Mary Margaret, Mark, Brian and Julia. Donitta stayed home to raise the children and was involved in all aspects of their lives–Boy Scouts, 4-H, sports, horse shows and farm work. She was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels, Midland Area Agency on Aging, and was involved with the food stand for their local saddle club.

Donitta and Bill built the house they lived in on the farm just outside of Sutton in 1964. Their home survived three tornadoes. Donitta could be found working in her garden or tending to her rose bushes in the summer months. She made the best pies and always had something warm out of the oven waiting for her children and husband to enjoy when they got home from their activities or the fields.

Donitta is survived by her children, Mary Margaret Hobelman (Mike) of Lincoln; Mark Sheridan of Cave Creek, AZ; Brian Sheridan (Carol) of Sutton, and Julia Rodehorst (Rex) of Kearney; eight grandchildren: Shiloh Hobelman (Kylee) of Lincoln; Joseph Hobelman (Jill) of Denton; Abbie Lamb (Travis) of Lincoln; Hayden Sheridan of Atlanta, GA; Kiley Bazata (Scott) of Kearney; Chad Sheridan of Atwood, KS; Afton Christen (Wade) of Anselmo; and Shawn Rodehorst of Kearney; twelve great-grandchildren, Logan Hobelman; William, Walter and Millie Hobelman; Ella, Crosby and Leo Lamb; Bronson, Brooks and Boone Bazata; Beau and Quinn Christen; sisters, Leona (Bea) Jackson of Riverton, and Ardyce (Carl) Eilert of Beloit, KS; brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Barb and Johnny Sheridan of Sutton, and sister-in-law, Peggy O’Connell of Kensington, MD, and a host of nieces and nephews.
