Sutton resident Donald Paul Bruns, Sr., 80, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, at Legacy Square in Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Private interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 1-7 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Federated Church. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com. Donald was born Aug. 31, 1943, on the family farm south of Sutton to Paul and Viola (Roberts) Bruns. He grew up on a farm south of Sutton and graduated from Sutton High School in 1962. After graduation, he farmed the family farm until 1989. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1968. On April 25, 1968, he married Linda Mc-Laughlin. They had one child, Donald P. Bruns, Jr., in 1970. In 1999, they moved into Sutton and Donald began a job with the Ong Coop. He was later employed with the Clay County Road Department until his retirement in 2012.

Donald was a member of the Federated Church in Sutton. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed checking his bluebirds, until he could no longer walk up and down the ditches. He loved to feed the squirrels and birds in town, especially the hummingbirds and orioles. Donald always had a big garden and kept Linda busy canning. He had a lot of love for his two Yorkies, Spanky and Louie.

Donald is survived by his wife, Linda of Sutton; son, Donald, Jr., of Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren, Koby Bruns and wife, Ashley, of Grafton, and Teage Bruns of Tempe, AZ; sisters-inlaw, Sharon Kenley of Edgar and Ruth McLaughlin of Edgar; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, David Paul and Viola Bruns; sister, Judy Yost and other relatives and friends.
