Don Nuss

Sutton resident Don Nuss, 91, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at the Henderson Health Care Hospital in Henderson.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment followed at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Condolences may be left at www. suttonmemorial.com. Don Nuss was born May 13, 1932, and after living 91 years he passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2024. He was born at home on the family farm in Clay County, NE to Hilmer and Hilda Nuss. Don attended District 8 school in Clay County, where he finished the eighth grade and then went home and worked on the family farm. Other than working on the farm, he also worked for a time at Bauman’s Station in Grafton.

He was married to Elaine Nuss on Dec. 18, 1957. They moved to the home farm where they raised five boys. After Don retired in 1998, they moved to town where Don continued the hobby of making incredible models. Despite having arthritis, we saw him put together the smallest pieces. Don still loved farming, and in town, he revised what that looked like. He could grow the largest watermelons and cantaloupe and was quite proud of this accomplishment. Don loved his grandchildren. His sense of humor came out the most when they were around.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine; son, Warren (Laura) of Greeley, CO; grandchildren, Amanda (Brian), Adam (Sarah), Alex (Lisa) and Austin (Mallory); son, Ron (Joni) of Aurora; grandchildren, Mitchell (Tyler) and Riley (Micki); son, Gary (Brenda) of Sutton; grandchildren, Jessica, Jenna and Jaden; son, Tony (Nicki) of Beatrice; grandchildren, Audrey, Katie and Nicholas; son, Daniel of Loveland, CO; brothers, Silas and Armin; sisters, Naomi Griess, Marie Hembree, Elizabeth Griess, Miriam Sinnen and Donna Mae Nuss; brother-in-law, Gerald Nuss; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Hilmar and Hilda Nuss; father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Lorene Nuss; brothers, Gideon Nuss and Thomas Nuss; sister, Ruth Griess; brothers-in-law, Ervin Jackson, Norm Griess, Melvin Griess and Evon Griess; sisters-in-law, Neomi Nuss, Luella Hunzeker and Leota Nuss; granddaughters, Audrey Nuss and Jessica Nuss.
