James “Jim” Nejezchleb

Former Deweese resident, James “Jim” Nejezchleb, 95, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at Central Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Kearney.

A Rosary service was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Memorial Mass was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Our Lady of Assumption catholic Church in Deweese, with Father Loras Grell officiating. Burial with military rites was at St. Martin’s Cemetery near Deweese. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Jim was born on Nov. 27, 1928, in Spring Ranch, to Adolph and Rose (Mazour) Nejezchleb. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947. Jim actively served our country as a radio operator in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he moved back to Nebraska where he worked in an auto body shop in Lincoln. He later moved back to Deweese and accepted a job at the grain elevator. He then married Sharon Busboom April 6, 1961, at the catholic church in Deweese. When offered the chance to buy the elevator, he purchased it instead of letting it close. He was the owner and operator for many years. Throughout his life, Jim’s interests included fishing, golfing, bowling, baseball, and attending Husker football games. He was involved in several generations of children’s lives by coaching baseball and basketball teams throughout the years.

Upon retirement, Jim sold the elevator to CPI. During retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing and watching Husker football and volleyball. When he moved to Kearney, he continued to enjoy fishing, playing cards, working puzzles, and woodworking.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Kent Kailey Post #45, VFW, and NGFA. Jim served on the Sandy Creek school board. He was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and over the years enjoyed serving as a lector, an acolyte, and mentoring the church youth in CCD classes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Rose; wife, Sharon; son, Perry Nejezchleb; brother, George Nejezchleb; sisters, Edna Sutter and Mildred Knapp; and step-great-granddaughter, Maci Fraser.

Survivors include children and spouses: Jamie and Cindy Nejezchleb of Deweese, Pauli Nejezchleb of Gretna, and Heidi and Tony Tringali of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren and spouses: Creighton Nejezchleb, Halston and Jenna Nejezchleb, Jamison Nejezchleb, Sedonia Tringali, Thomas Tringali, Tyler and Ashley Olson, Tanya and Tyler Fraser, Cole and Beth Olson; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Nejezchleb, Maddilyn Nejezchleb, Karlyn Nejezchleb, Karter Nejezchleb, Brenna Fraser, Hadley Fraser, Nora Olson, Stetson Olson, and Josie Olson; sister, Margaret “Margie” Mertens, Lincoln; and numerous nieces and nephews.
