Hole-In-One Carded at Crooked Creek Tournament

Rod Hartman of Hastings hit a Hole-In-One on Sunday, August 16t, during the Dane Memorial Golf Tournament at Clay Center’s Crooked Creek Country Club.  artman’s feat came on the 319-yard Hole 1, which is a par-4 hole. Witnesses to the ace were Jake Koehler, Ryan Butler, Ryan Weber, Clay Fisher, Evan Fisher, Rod McDonald and Rick Washburn.

Not even over an inch of rain could stop volunteers and teams from enjoying a weekend full of fun, all in an effort to remember the late Travis Carpenter, during the 13th Annual Travis Carpenter Memorial Co-ed Softball tournament held this past weekend in Sutton. A total of 10 teams invaded Sutton’s Legion Field for the yearly event in an effort to raise funds for local scholarships and benefit local youth activities and local organization through the generous gifts, donations, and entry fees to the tournament.

Stovall Survives for King of the Hill Opener Friday Night

Night number one of the King of the Hill Late Model Shootout at Junction Motor Speedway saw Jesse Stovall survive close racing and multiple restarts to win the first feature of the weekend. Stovall went to victory lane for the seventh time with the LucasOil MLRA late model series Friday night, but he had to survive a caution-littered feature and a  few late charges from Jason Utter and Terry Phillips to come out the winner.

Tickets on Sale for World of Outlaws Aug. 18

Tickets are now on sale for the NAPA Auto Parts Sprint Car Extravaganza, presented by Mid-Nebraska Land Developers, featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and Nebraska 360 Sprint Car Series at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE, on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The event will mark the first time that the two series have competed together on the same card, giving sprint car fans the best of both worlds. Fans will get to see 410-winged sprint cars and 360-winged sprint cars on the same night.

Some familiar faces made their way back to the winner circle at Junction Motor Speedway on Saturday night. The speedway’s Driver Appreciation Night saw many race fans get in because of free tickets given out by the local drivers. The fans got more than what they bargained for, as the stars of Junction Motor Speedway took to the track for another points night as the end of the season draws closer.

Overturf Wins Big at Webster Co. Fair

Sutton’s Wade Overturf had a busy couple of days of bull riding this past week, taking on the field at both the Fillmore County Fair Wednesday, July 22, and the Webster County Fair on Thursday, July 23. Overturf came up just short of a full ride in this picture, taken at the Fillmore County Fair during the Extreme Bullriding Tour. In Bladen on Thursday, July 23, Overturf came up a big winner, earning $500 atop the “Bounty Bull” at the Webster County Fair, as well as taking championship honors over 18 other bullriders to earn the top prize of over $1,700. This was the Sutton graduate’s first win this season, which propels him to third place overall in the Mid-States Rodeo Association’s bull riding standings. He also owns a second place finish from a rodeo in Overton held in late June.
