Coming off an impressive C2-2 District title win over Nebraska Christian Nov. 7, the Sutton Fillies faced a monster in the opening round of the Class C-2 State Volleyball Championships in the Freeman Falcons. That first round bout against the then 30-0 Freeman squad would be a huge test, a test that, at least for three sets, produced an energetic challenge from Sutton. In the end, however, the much taller Falcons would prevail and advance, notching a 25-19, 24-26, 25- 18, 25-10 win over the Fillies, ending the 2014 season for Sutton with an impressive 27-6 record. Freeman would advance and eventually claim the Class C-2 state title with a four set win over Hastings St. Cecilia during Friday’s semifinal round before knocking the Crofton Warriors from the ranks of the unbeaten in the state title match Saturday, finishing the season with a 33-0 record.
