County trackletes prep for district meets

County track athletes are rounding out the track season and are preparing for the district meets. 

Harvard will compete at the D-2 District Meet hosted by Tri County High School, south of DeWitt, Wednesday, May 9. Sutton will host the C-6 District Meet Thursday, May 10, Sandy Creek's boys and girls will also compete in Sutton. Both meets begin at 10 a.m.

The D-2 Meet will see 11 teams facing off—BDS, Deshler, Dorchester, Exeter-Milligan, Friend, Giltner, Harvard, Lawrence-Nelson, McCool Junction, Meridan and Tri County. 

The C-6 Meet will feature nine teams—Blue Hill, Doniphan-Trumbull, Fillmore Central, Hastings St. Cecilia, Heartland, Sandy Creek, Superior, Sutton and Thayer Central. 

There will be nine Class D districts and nine Class C districts this year.

The winners of the first two places and the next six fastest times in the each individual running event will earn a qualifying spot for the state meet. The maximum number of runners in each event is 24. 

The first two places in field events will qualify for the state meet. 

In relays, the first place team will qualify and the next seven fastest times will qualify. There is a maximum of 16 teams that will qualify in the relay.

Automatic qualifiers for the Class C boys are set at pole vault, 13 feet, 4 inches; high jump, 6 feet; long jump, 20-5; triple jump, 42-8; shot, 49-7; and discus, 145-2. 

The girls' automatic qualifying marks at Class C are set at pole vault, 9-8; high jump, 5-1; long jump, 15-9; triple jump, 34-2; shot, 37-8; and discus, 114-7. 

In Class D, the boys' automatic qualifying marks are pole vault, 12-2; high jump, 5-11; long jump, 19-9; triple jump, 40-11; shot, 48-4; and discus 138-2; and the girls' marks are pole vault, 9 feet; high jump, 4-11; long jump, 16 feet; triple jump, 34-1; shot, 37 feet; and discus, 110-5. 

The State Meet will be hosted at Omaha Burke Stadium, Friday and Saturday, May 18-19. 

Class D and B will begin with preliminaries at 9 a.m. Friday with Class C and A preliminaries beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
