Grafton resident Gilbert Ackermann, 85, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Fairview Manor in Fairmont, NE. Funeral services were 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb.10, 2015, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE, with Rev. Joe Vusich officiating. Interment followed at the Grafton Cemetery in Grafton, NE. Visitation was Monday, from 1–8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in
Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at Gilbert was born September 7, 1929, in Grafton, NE, to Andrew and Elsie Kathrina (Huber) Ackermann. He was the first born boy of nine children and was raised mostly by his sisters after his mother died when he was two years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Free German Reformed Salem Church, and after he was married, began attending the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE. Gilbert received his early education at country school in
Grafton, NE, and later attended Sutton Public Schools in Sutton, NE. After high school, he served his country in the Korean War. On July 22, 1967, he married Claudette Starr in Lincoln, NE, 
and to this union three children were born; Ronald, Rebecca andRussell. Gilbert was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE. He enjoyed attending coffee with his friends, playing
cards and being active in any sporting event that he could. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. Farming and family were the most important things in his life.He is survived by his son, Ron, and wife, Becki Ackermann, and their children, Bree, Riley, Levi, Elle and  Cole, all of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Becky, and husband, Chris Green, and their children,Kellan, Kierra and Krislyn, all of McCool Junction, NE; son, Russ Ackermann of Grafton, NE; sisters, Wilma Ackermann of Lincoln, NE; Esther Anderson of Branson, MO; Rachel Herringa of Seattle, WA; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Geri Ackermann of Seattle, WA; brotherin- law, Gary Kendall of Hastings, NE; sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sandy Kendall of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by  his wife, Claudette, in 2007; granddaughter, Kerriona Kathrina Green in 1998; his parents, Andrew and Elsie (Huber) Ackermann; infant sister, Luella Ackermann; sisters and brothers-inlaw, Lydia and Oscar Roemmich; Sarah and John Gruememeryer;
Elizabeth and Wally Sharpneck; Ed Anderson; Tom Herringa; Donas and John Hardloser; Phyllis Kendall; niece, Linda Anderson; nephew, Kevin Kendall; father and mother-in-law, Alva (Jack) and Maimee Kendall; and father-in-law, Orrin Starr.
