Elmer A. Rauscher, 78, of Pierre, SD, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, at Avera Maryhouse Nursing Care Facility. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, with visitation an hour prior from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Inurnment took place at Riverside Cemetery. Elmer Rauscher was born at home near Sutton, NE, on March 28, 1937, to Agatha and August Rauscher. While attending school, he helped his dad on the farm. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Alaskan Territory. In 1960, he moved to Pierre to work on the Oahe Dam Project. A year later, he met and married Marcia Hansen and to this union, six children were born. Elmer worked for Fred’s Heating & Cooling, Chase Roofing and for the State of South Dakota until he retired. In 2004, he married April Lind. Together, they enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. Elmer enjoyed flying model airplanes, riding motorcycles, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and spending time with his family. Elmer was a member of the American Legion, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Lifetime member of American Motorcycle Association, Academy of Model Aeronautics and International Miniature Aircraft Association, Pierre Balsa Bugs and the Aberdeen Flying Club. Elmer is survived by his wife, April of Pierre, SD; his children, Donald Hodge (Laurene) of Olivia, MN; Valorie Lankford of Kissee Mills, MO; Joseph Rauscher (Anna) of Sioux Falls, SD; Anissa Grambihler (David) of Pierre, SD; and LeaCroyle (Bill) of Jamestown, TN; stepdaughter, Laura Millet (Craig) of Aberdeen, SD. Brothers, Wilmer Rauscher of Lincoln, NE, and Richard Rauscher (Janet) of Park Ridge, IL; brother-in-law, James Hansen of Lincoln, NE; twenty-three grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia, an infant son Dennis Rauscher, his brother, Donald Rauscher, and son in-law, Paul Richardson.
