Sutton Juniors to state

Tale of two games between Post 61 and Wilber gives Sutton two wins, trip to state tourney

The Sutton Junior Legion baseball team faced a huge uphill climb to earn their second straight trip to the Class C state championship tournament, needing to earn two wins over the Wilber Juniors Tuesday night at DLD Park.

The tale of two games, however, would make that dream possible for the Post 61 crew, as Sutton came from behind in game one with one run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, to steal a dog fight battle with Wilber, 4-3.

Pitching troubles hampered the top seeded Wilber crew in game two, to the tune of 10 walks, while Sutton took full advantage of the Wilber pitching woes, scoring seven runs in the second inning and combining for eight more runs in the final four innings of a six inning affair, to gain the 10-run, 15-5 win over Wilber. Sutton punched their ticket to state, which begins this Saturday in St. Paul.
