Immediately following his state championship win in Omaha, Hinrichs sent a message above to a fallen family member that was killed by a drunk driver during the C-3 District meet in Oakland. When all the smoke had cleared, Sutton junior Joe Hinrichs stood atop the Class C 152-pound medal stand, winning his first-ever state championship Saturday with a 10-4 win over Raymond Central’s Conner Kreikemier. Senior Jarvis Smith earned one win in three matches during action in the Class C 285-pound class, as Smith pinned Malcolm’s Kale Nordmeyer in 2:44 during the first round of the consolation brackets. Smith finished his senior season with a 29-12 record. TORY DUNCAN | CLAY COUNTY NEWS
