Vietnam vets were named as the Grand Marshals during the Clay Center Fourth of July Parade on Saturday. The Fourth of July Celebration, “Hats Off to America,” was centered around honoring the veterans.

Clay Center Named Best Host Community by BRAN Ride Participants

The community of Clay Center received rave reviews from riders that took part in the 35th Annual Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) June 7-13. Of the seven communities that hosted an overnight stay for the riders, Clay Center was selected by the majority of riders as the best stay over spot along the southern route that was chosen this year.

Clay County Fair Begins Thursday in Clay Center

It’s that time of the year again—the Clay County Fair is only days away and has a full schedule set. “Boots, Chaps, and Cowboy Hats,” is the theme for the fourday affair, with events starting at 11 a.m., on July 9, with a makeshift poultry show. The 4-H rabbit show will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Sutton native Amanda Winter is heading back to her home roots for a two-hour concert, featuring music from her album, “Not That Girl,” and a variety of other country genres, at 8 p.m., Friday, July 10. “We’re really excited; we’re going to do a two-hour show and we’re going to be doing all of the songs from my album and then my favorites from classic country to prime country to the Miranda and Carrie Underwood songs of today,” she said.

Clay Center Fourth of July Celebration set for Saturday

This year’s Clay Center Fourth of July theme, “Hats Off to America,” will be centered around honoring Vietnam War veterans, as it is the 50th anniversary of the war. On July 3, there will be a street dance from 9 p.m.- midnight, in front of the
Clay Center American Legion. Smokey B and the XYZ’s will perform for the evening. The dance is free will donation at the gate to help with fireworks and other expenses.

City of Edgar Awarded $4,744 from NDEQ Grant

The City of Edgar has received a $4,744 award from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, as announced by the NDEQ Director Jim Macy last week. Edgar’s award is a part of a $2.01 million award program throughout the State of Nebraska that, in all, supports 126 tire recycling and cleanup projects in the state.

Clay Co. Extension Office Prepares for Fair

Planning for something as big as the yearly county fair takes some time—not just hours each day, but months in advance. The Clay County Extension Office began preparing for this year’s fair back in January. They determined pre-fair dates for shows and hired judges for the pre-fair shows and fair exhibits.
