Robert “Bob” Leroy Hammond

Robert “Bob” Leroy Hammond

Robert “Bob” Leroy Hammond was born to Marion L. Hammond and Myrtle P. (Artrup) Hammond on April 27, 1937, at Edgar, and passed away Sept. 26, 2019, at York General Hospital in York, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 30 days. He was one of 8 children in the family.

Robert joined the United States Navy on May 27, 1955, as a Radar Specialist, and was stationed in Long Beach, CA. He first served on the ship, Roarke Carrier, and he finished his duty serving on the destroyer ship, E.F. Larson. He then performed his Naval duties on the ground, providing Shore Patrol, until he was honorably discharged on May 14, 1959.

Robert was married to Marilyn Fisher of Sutton, on June 14, 1957, and to them five children were born.

In June of 1959, Bob and Marilyn moved to Caldwell, ID, where he worked on a mink farm and worked with Tommy Campbell who taught him the trade of auto body repair.

Randall L. George

Sutton resident, Randall Lee George, 59, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at his home near Sutton.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life service at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the family farm (31848 Road W, Sutton, with Pastor Bill Richards officiating. In honoring Randy’s wish to be cremated there will not be a visitation or viewing.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Randall L. George was born Jan. 10, 1960, in Sutton, to Ardean and Annie (Carl) George. He received his education at Sutton Public Schools and furthered his education at Central Community College in Hastings, studying auto body repair.

Randall was an avid motocross racer, Hot Wheels collector and vintage race car enthusiast.

Jane L. (Dewitt) Skolaut

Jane Louise (Dewitt) Skolaut, 54, passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at her home in Clay Center.

Memorial services were conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, with Rev. Kevin Whitmore officiating. In honoring Jane’s wish to be cremated there was no viewing or visitation.

Harvard resident Anthony “Tony” Ben Jarzynka, 63, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Memorial Mass was 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard, with Fr. Christopher Stoley officiating. Rosary was 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, at the church. Burial was at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Hastings, is handling arrangements.

Tony was born Aug. 30, 1956, in Grand Island, son, of Stanley and Ivalon (Rollins) Jarzynka. He graduated from Harvard High School with the class of 1975. Tony married Katherine A. Kehler on May 15, 1982, in O’Connor, NE. He worked for Logan Rath. Tony enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, spending time outdoors and farming.

Evelyn J. Aufdenkamp

A memorial service for Evelyn June Aufdenkamp, age 92, of O’Neill will be 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Rev. John Nelson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Wanda Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Evelyn passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be given to the O’Neill Area Special Olympics, 622 Fairway Ave. O’Neill, NE. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn June Fajen was born June 15, 1927, in Washington County, KS, to Walter and Olga (Dierking) Fajen. She grew up in the Palmer and Linn communities before graduating from Clifton (Kansas) High School in 1945. She moved to Nebraska in 1946.

She married Arthur Christian Aufdenkamp on December 26, 1948. Three children were born to this union: Dennis, Joyce and Jonathan.

Richard H. Yaeger

Richard H. Yaeger was born Feb. 23, 1920, to Michael and Anna (Reinsch) Yaeger in Shickley. He passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at Heritage Crossings Nursing Home in Geneva, at the age of 99 years, 6 months, and 9 days.

Richard was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Turkey Creek Catholic Church. His mother died when he was seven years old. Richard attended a rural school through the eighth grade and then attended one year at Geneva High School. He left school to work on the farm and help provide for his large family.

Mervin D. Baumann

Mervin Dean Baumann was born on Dec. 1, 1928, to William and Anna (Lauenstein) Baumann in Sutton. He was welcomed into God’s family on Dec. 30, 1928, through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grafton. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1946. During the Korean conflict, Merv spent June 1951 through June 1955, in the U.S. Navy, stationed most of the time at Treasure Island, CA.

On Aug. 22, 1964, Merv married Sharon Lee Becker from Stewart, MN. They farmed and made their home near Sutton. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Jon (Colleen) of Plymouth, MI; Lisa (Jeff) of Dallas, TX; David of Omaha; and Amy (Matt) of Dallas, TX. A Christian education for his children was a priority in Merv and Sharon’s life.

Nelda J. Brown

Nelda Jean Brown, 80, of Lincoln, passed away on Aug. 28, 2019, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Nelda was born in Lincoln to Grant and Ethel Israelson on Feb. 8, 1939, and shortly thereafter her family moved to the Hastings area. Nelda attended school in Saronville and Clay Center before graduating from Sutton High School in 1956.

Nelda married Larry D. Brown on Sept. 29, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Saronville. Upon their marriage, they moved to Texas for a short time while Larry was stationed there with the United States Air Force. Larry was then deployed to Japan and Nelda returned to live in Lincoln until his return. The couple lived a short time in North Platte with their growing family. In 1967 the family moved to Lincoln and have lived in the same house in the Meadowlane neighborhood ever since.

Sutton resident Lonnie L. Griess, 61, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at his home in Sutton. Memorial services were conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Federated Church in Sutton, with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Inurnment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. Griess was born on Oct. 27, 1957, in Henderson, to Donald R. and Sharol K. (Schrock) Griess. He received his education from Sutton Public Schools. Lonnie was a lifelong farmer and loved every minute of working with his family. He had a passion for building things, Husker Football, and racing. His greatest pride was his three daughters.

Jane Neely

Jane Neely, 72, of Lincoln, died on Aug. 16, 2019.

Jane was born Dec. 30, 1946 to Byron and Merna (Schlachter) Kinnison in Hastings.

Jane was a kind and gentle person, who was devoted to family and friends. Jane enjoyed sunsets and rainbows and to take quiet walks. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Estes Park, CO. She was the best apple pie baker in Lincoln. Everyone looked forward to her gravy at the holidays. She put her love into all that she did.

Preceded in death by her father.

Survived by her husband, Dave Neely; mother, Merna Kinnison (Warren Harms); children, Jackie (Pete) Castater, Patty (Craig) Kersey, Kurt (Bernita) North, Jon (Chris) North, Laurie North, Michelle Neely; siblings, Kris (Gary) Christman, Roxie Rose, Bobbie (Michael) Baker, Clark (Cindy) Kinnison; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
