Glenvil area resident, Marvella J. “June” Nejezchleb, 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, NE. Rosary will be Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, 10 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial followed at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese, with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial was in St. Martin’s (Loucky) Cemetery, west of Deweese. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation was Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, 1–8 p.m., with family present 6–8 p.m., at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, and one hour prior to service at the church. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center is serving the family. June was born June 29, 1926, on the family farm in Clay County, NE, to Benjamin and Jessie (Juranek) Wolfe. She married Ernest Nejezchleb on Aug.

Glenvil resident Raymond K. Kissinger, 95, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE. Private graveside services for the immediate family will be held at the Glenvil Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., with family present 5:30–7:30 p.m., at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center is serving the family. Private condolences may be sent at www.lbvfh.com. Raymond Keith Kissinger was born January 16, 1921, to Ray J. and Bertha Kissinger near Glenvil, NE. He graduated from Glenvil High School. After graduation, he farmed and fed cattle near Glenvil. He met his wife, Irma Atkinson in Hastings, NE. They were united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1944, at the Baptist Church in Hastings, she preceded him in death on April 27, 2001.

David Dean Shunkwiler, 76, of Grand Island died on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with military honors rendered by the United States Air Force and Grand Island Veterans’ Honor Guard. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. David was born May 13, 1940 in Fairfield, NE, to Wesley and Alvera (Wallenburg) Shunkwiler. He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Darren (Rebekah) Shunkwiler of Palmer and William Shunkwiler of Grand Island; two grandsons, Justin Harris and Logan Shunkwiler; brothers, Wesley D. (Maxine) Shunkwiler of Fairfield; Kenneth Shunkwiler of Lincoln; Keith Shunkwiler of Grand Island and William Shunkwiler of Grove, OK; sisters, Marlene Neilson of Mankato, KS and Linda (Roger) Herbeck of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Del Shunkwiler of Prosper, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Curtis Shunkwiler.

LOREN F. JENSEN

Loren Fred Jensen of Edgar, NE, was born on May 31, 1931, on a farm just north of Nora, NE, to Hans and Lillian (Kotas) Jensen. Loren passed away peacefully after a long illness at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Superior on Aug. 26, 2016. He was 85 years old. Loren was born during the Depression and f a rming was a struggle. His father, Hans, moved his family from rural Nora to a wheat farm near Delphos, KS, when Loren was about three-years-old and then to Idaho five years later after Hans was told there were many jobs in that area. But Hans found that good jobs were scarce and he moved his family back to Nebraska on what was known as the “Simic Place” before settling three and a half miles northwest of Oak, where Loren would later farm in his adult life. Loren last attended grade school and completed the eighth grade at the Carlin country school near the farm.

CHARLES S. PECK

Charles S. Peck, 78, former Fairfield resident, died May 22, in Hot Sulphur Springs, CO. Peck was born March 25, 1938, in Lemmon, SD, son of Betty Jess and Charles S. Peck Sr. He graduated valedictorian from Fairfield High School in 1956 and attended the University of Nebraska before graduating from the University of Idaho as a wildlife biologist. His first assignment with the US Fish and Wildlife Service was at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Lakeview, OR. From there, he enlisted in the US Army and trained at Ft. Holabird, MD, before serving three years in Army Intelligience. He returned to a career in the FWS and served refuges in Montana and North Dakota, before being appointed as the first Project Leader when the FWS began combining refuges under a single supervisor. He served the Southeast Idaho NWR Project until his retirement in 1991, supervising the Minedoka, Gray's Lake, Bear Lake, Camas and Oxford Slough refuges.
