Coming off of a 71-49 win over St. Paul Jan. 9, the Sandy Creek boys basketball team looked to continue their winning ways, but first had to get past 9-2 Deshler and the 4-9 Superior Wildcats to do so. The Dragons of Deshler would fire off to a big start in their Jan. 13, bout at Sandy Creek, holding a 20-11 edge after the first quarter.

A pair of tough losses, in contrasting fashion, would leave the Harvard boys basketball team at 2-9 on the season. A two point, 33-31 loss to Red Cloud Friday night led into a 60-23 home loss to Kenesaw Saturday night for the Cardinals.

Harvard Girls Win Two Conference Battles Last Week

The taste of victory was felt twice this past weekend for the Harvard girls basketball team, as the Lady Cardinals improved to 3-9 on the season with two Twin Valley Conference wins. They blitzed Red Cloud 38-22 Friday night, before holding off a late Kenesaw comeback Saturday to edge the Lady Blue Devils 55-53.

Bluehawks Fly Past Cougars

The preseason, number two ranked Hastings St. Cecilia Bluehawks showed why they earned that preseason ranking in Class C-2 Saturday afternoon while taking on Sandy Creek in the Cougars’ Den. The Bluehawks, behind a 41-20 first half run and a 31-27 run in the second half, rolled past the Cougars 72- 47 in non-conference action. The loss drops Sandy Creek to 3-9 overall, while the Bluehawks remained unbeaten in nine games with the win.

Cold Shooting Leads Central City to 53-20 win over Sandy Creek

Hosting Central City in the first round of the Central City Holiday Tournament wasn’t such a hot start for the Sandy Creek girls basketball team, as the Lady Bison rolled to a 33 point win on the Lady Cougars’ home court in the opening round of the holiday tournament Dec. 23. The 53-20 loss dropped Sandy Creek to .500 on the season with a 4-4 record.

Losses to Doniphan-Trumbull and Wilber- Clatonia this past week would see the Sandy Creek boys basketball team fall to 2-6 on the year. A trip to Doniphan Friday night would see the host Cardinals use a huge second quarter run to hand the Cougars their fifthloss of the 2014-15 season.  Leading 14-10 after the first quarter, Doniphan- Trumbull added a 22-8 blitz in the second to extend their lead to 36-18 at thehalf, and never looked back.
