Bailey Wins Gold at Wood River Invitational

Senior Kane Majors works over Hastings St. Cecilia wrestler John Walz during the semifinal round match in the 220 pound class at the Wood River Invitational last Friday. Majors would claim runner-up honors in the meet after a tough loss to returning state medalist Payton Schake of Amherst. Majors owns a 5-2 record as the Mustangs head to the Red Raider Invitational at Sandy Creek this Friday afternoon

Cougars at 2-4 After Second Week

The Sandy Creek boys, with their 61-54 win over Centennial Dec. 11, combined with losses to Adams Central Dec. 9 and Friend Saturday night, are 2-4 on the season. Here, Kendall Dickson (53) and Corbin Hansen (31) maneuver for a rebound during the Cougars’ win over the Broncos. Also looking on is John Sock (21) and Gabe Munoz (23).

A heavy dose of David Bohlen and Evan Lindblad, who accounted for 27 of the Patriots’ 73 points, would see Adams Central roll to a 73-46 win over the Cougars, Dec. 9. The Cougars fell to 1-3 with the loss. Bohlen would hit for 17 points and Lindblad, 11, in the win over the Cougars. Sandy Creek, offensively, was led by John Sock’s 11 points in the loss.

Johnson Shatters Record Book

Sutton senior Noah Johnson, behind a total of 2,892 yards, led all of Nebraska in rushing and finished his career 11th on the national charts. He broke one state record in Class C-2 and set a total of 11 school records, helping the Mustangs to a 9-1 record and a final ranking of sixth in Class C-2. -CCN File

His 2,892 yards set the new bar in both Class C-2, as well as overall in 11-man football, in the state of Nebraska this past season. Noah Johnson’s record breaking and monumental season crushed the previous all season rushing record in Johnson, during his final season as a Mustang, led all rushers, regardless of class, with his total yards on the ground, outdistancing Maxwell’s Jaylon Sturdivant b
