Upper Big Blue NRD Board Fills Director Seat

The Upper Big Blue NRD Board of Directors have selected Paul Bethune of York to fill the seat vacated by long-time board member Steve Buller, who retired from the board in May 2015. Paul Bethune represents Sub-District 8. There were three other applicantswho expressed interest  in filling the seat. They were Roberta (Bobbi) Janda, Jim Schneider and Greg Staehr. The board selected Bethune by majority vote through an open roll-call. Bethune was then given the oath of office administered by John Turnbull, NRD General Manager. Bethune will be completing the rest of Buller’s term, which will expire in January 2017. Bethune stated in his letter for board consideration that he has been employed with his family business, Bethune Construction, LLC, since 2000. He is a 1996 graduate of the University of Nebraska, receiving a B.S. in Natural Resources. He wrote: “I am an outdoorsman. I hunt, fish and camp as much as time allows.

Traudt Hog Confinement Open House Showcases Facility

The hog confinement center, owned by Walt Traudt, located just a few miles north of Clay Center along Highway 14, hosted an open house on Tuesday, June 30. Attendees could enjoy food while viewing the facility and also talk with others about the process and what everything does.

Nebraska Crop Progress and Condition Report LINCOLN, NE, June 29, 2015 For the week ending June 28, 2015. Rainfall of one inch or more was recorded in portions of north central Nebraska as well as southeastern areas, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Temperatures averaged near normal. Storms brought hail to parts of the Panhandle. Irrigation activities were underway with pipe being laid in southern counties and pivots running in others.

After the Storm...

On Sunday, various rainstorms hit the north side of Clay County, bringing with them strong winds, chilly temperatures, and thunder and lightning. After each storm, large dark cloud formations filled the sky and, for the most part, blocked out the sun for the remainder of the day.
