Shirley Peters

Shirley Peters

Shirley Peters was born to Clifford and Florence (King) Vetter Aug. 24, 1937, in Ainsworth. She passed away Aug. 18, 2021 at Arbor Care Center in Tekamah, at the age of 83.

Visitation was from 6-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at the United Methodist Church. Services were at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Burial took place at the Edgar Cemetery in Edgar at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21.

She graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett in 1955. May 5, 1957, she married Jimmy Peters in Ainsworth. To this union, two children, Pamela and Brent, were born. Shirley attended Tekamah United Methodist Church.

After graduation from high school, Shirley was a chairside dental assistant for two years. She and Jim moved to Wichita, KS, for two years. They moved back to Nebraska living most of their lives in Clay Center. In 2007, they moved to Tekamah.

Merle Reinsch

Merle Reinsch

Merle Joseph Reinsch of Shickley passed away Aug. 10, 2021, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 85. Merle was born Nov. 30, 1935, on the Reinsch Family Homestead to William and Margaret Ann (Erthum) Reinsch; he was the 12th of 13 children.

He attended Country Grade School District 79 before leaving to help his dad farm. Merle later returned to Shickley High School and graduated Salutatorian of the class of 1956. He joined the U.S. Army and was deployed in Alaska from 1957-59. After his service, Merle began farming on his own.

Merle married Betty Jean Baxa on Jan. 6, 1962, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tobias. Together, they had four children and continued to reside on the Reinsch Homestead founded in 1873 where Merle kept hogs, chickens and cows and received the Pioneer Farm Family award in 1973.

Rose Mary Brennfoerder

Rose Mary Brennfoerder of Edgar, daughter of Tiny (Swartz) Johnson and Bart Johnson, was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Emporia, KS. She departed us on Aug. 12, 2021, at the age of 82.

She is survived by her husband, Ron; sons, Jim (Mary) Shipley and Scott (Jill) Shipley; daughter, Vicki Novak; sisters, Betty, Joann, Josephine, Linda, Charlene and Darlene; brother, Mike; grandchildren, Jessica, Ben, Jacey, Brady, Katie, Raleigh, Craig and Audra; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Reagan, Dax and Etta; many cousins, nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and dear friends.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Roland (Perk) Shipley; mother, Tiny Swartz Johnson and father, Bart Johnson.

Raymond “Ray” Boehler

Raymond “Ray” D. Boehler, 77, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 29, at All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island.

Services in Ray’s honor were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 30, at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo officiated and burial took place at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

All Faiths Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

Ray was born on Oct. 18, 1943, in Clay County, NE, son of William and Vera (Fuehrer) Boehler.

He grew up in Sutton and graduated from Sutton High School in 1962. On Feb. 21, 1965, he married Doniele Hajek, they made their home in Lincoln before settling in Grand Island.

Dean G. Ulmer was born Feb. 16, 1950, and went into eternity to his Lord Jesus Christ on Aug. 7, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Lincoln, following a 14-month battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

Amos “Lee” Scherff

Amos “Lee” Scherff was born May 18, 1939, in the family home in rural Caulfield, MO to Clifford and Geneva (Williams) Scherff. Lee weighed in at four pounds and for weeks a shoebox was his bed. He was the oldest of three brothers.

The family moved to rural Aurora, in 1946 where they farmed. Lee graduated from Badger country school, and in 1957 he graduated from Aurora High School and joined the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Bermuda and worked as a mechanic on B-50 planes which were flown by Hurricane Hunters; he loved the times when he got to fly with them.

Walter Davis

Former Sutton resident Walter Davis, 78, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at Azria Health Broadwell in Grand Island.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, with Major Jay Davis officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service on Saturday, from 9–10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Walter Oscar Davis was born March 22, 1943, in Grand Island to Walter W. and Marion A. Davis.

He received his education at Grand Island Public School.

He married Lois Horner on June 5, 1962. He was employed in various positions, was a hardworking and multi-talented man with various experiences in many fields. However, his favorite was his last position, operating a food wagon.

Harvard resident Slade J. Stolhand, 43, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, in Ord.

Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at United Church of Christ in Harvard, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Slade was born Jan. 16, 1978, in Coalville, UT to Steve and Shirley (Widener) Stolhand. He worked as a pool builder and construction worker in Colorado and Nebraska for many years.

Slade was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Clay Center resident Steven Michael DeJung, 69, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021, at his home in Clay Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, with Father Michael Zimmer officiating. In honoring his wish to be cremated there will not be a visitation or viewing. Inurnment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center.

Services will be live-streamed from the St. Mary's Catholic Church website www.stmaryssutton.org

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Mills-Schroder Post #81, Clay Center, or to the Clay Center Volunteer Fire Department in Clay Center.

Margaret V “Peg” Schlichtman

Margaret V “Peg” Schlichtman of Edgar, the daughter of Earl and Anna (Zikmund) Waldron, was born July 4, 1927. She departed this life on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Mary Lanning Health Care Center in Hastings.

Peg was united in marriage to Robert M Shuck on March 4, 1944. The couple had three girls, Pat Shuck (Wood) and husband Larry Wood, Melody Shuck (Hopper), and Jaci Shuck (Burdick). Peg was preceded in death by her parents Earl Waldron and Anna Salzkorn, her husband Robert M Shuck and daughter, Melody Shuck (Hopper).
