Ronald Yost

Ronald Yost

Ronald Dean Yost died peacefully on Nov. 26, 2021, in Omaha at the age of 78. Born in Hastings on Oct. 9, 1943, to Robert and Florence (Hamburger) Yost, Ron grew up on a farm near Harvard and attended Harvard High School. He later went on to earn a Bachelors of Education in 1967 from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He met wife, Suzi Yost (Reagan), a Delta Gamma, through Greek life and they were married on Jan. 21, 1967, in Lincoln. They moved to Milwaukee, WI, where Ron taught high school, but after several stops around the country, they eventually settled in Omaha in 1976 where Ron continued his career in telecommunications sales and they raised their 4 four children.

Clay Center resident Sandra Sue (Arterburn) Duntz, 73, left this earth peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center, with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating. Interment followed at the Clay Center Cemetery.

Sandra was born in Red Cloud., on June 30, 1948, to Howard and Betty (Smith) Arterburn. Sandra grew up in Red Cloud and attended Red Cloud High School graduating in 1966.

Virginia Boswell

Virginia Pauline Boswell of Plano, TX, passed away Dec.10, 2021, at the young age of 88. She was born Feb.16, 1933, to Thomas and Thera Shaw in Deweese. Virginia married her husband, Lorn Boswell, on May 4, 1948. Virginia is survived by daughters, Vicky Blashfield and Deborah Wiig, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Virginia enjoyed hobbies such as baking and crafting. Her family loved all her delicious treats and tried to mimic her delicious date cake to no avail! Virginia and Lorn opened a craft store in Kearney, and after a few years of success, sold their business to move to Oklahoma.

Virginia enjoyed nature walks, bird/ butterfly watching and traveling. She and Lorn RV’d the U.S. collecting “Good Sam RV Club” traveling stickers. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed by all. Spread your wings and fly with the butterflies, Grand Mama.

Wilmer Griess

Sutton resident Wilmer Griess, 91, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at his home in Sutton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, with Rev. Carl Gobelman officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 3–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Sutton Community Home or Emmanuel Reformed Church.

Wilmer was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Sutton to Calvin and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Korb) Griess. He received his education at District #16 Country School in Fillmore County. On March 9, 1950, he married Ruth Griess. Wilmer was employed as a lifelong farmer in the area.

He was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, the Horseshoe Bend Golf Course and had served on the CO-OP board for nine years.

A Celebration of Life was on Monday, Dec. 20, at Harvard United Church of Christ in Harvard, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Burial took place at Harvard Cemetery in Harvard. Tristen was born July 27, 2003, in Holdrege to Clint Owens and Mildred Gusman. He attended Harvard High School. Tristen was a cashier at Domino’s Pizza in Hastings. He attended Harvard United Church of Christ.

Tristen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Larry and Connie Owens.

Curtis (Curt) Lee Johnson, 62, of Edgar died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at Williams Funeral Home in Edgar, with David King officiating. Burial followed at the Edgar Cemetery. Curt was born Oct. 4, 1959, to Darrel and Effie (Helberg) Johnson. Curt grew up on a farm outside of Edgar and made it his life-long home. He attended Edgar Elementary and graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1977.

Curt married Tamara (Tammy Claycamp) Johnson on June 7, 1986, at Edgar Church of the Plains. Curt and Tammy were blessed with two daughters, Katie and Kaylee.

Curt grew up on the farm helping his dad, Darrel, alongside his brothers. The family farm was his life, along with his wife and two girls. Curt enjoyed fishing, going to the lake, hunting, shooting blue rock with his girls and being outside in his shop.

Military graveside services were conducted following the funeral service at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton.

LoRayne Richard Ulmer was born Feb. 20, 1938, at the family farm in Fillmore County, NE, to Edmund and Christine (Ackerman) Ulmer. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1955. In 1956, he enlisted in the Navy and served until 1959 at Bellingham, WA.

On Oct. 16, 1960, he married Janice (Schukei) Ulmer and to this union four children were born.
