Fehr takes state FFA office at convention

Article Image Alt Text

Sutton’s one and only Megan Fehr has been chosen to be one of the next State FFA officers for 2019-20. She will be a fulltime student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as committing her time as a full-time FFA officer.

Fehr said next year will be “pretty busy, and that’s probably an understatement” when she referred to some of the activities she and her teammates will be doing.

Fehr was introduced to the organization years ago when she watched her older brother, Tyler, receive his American Degree at National Convention in 2013. The America Degree is the highest achievement an FFA member can be awarded by the National FFA Organization.

Several battles faced the Harvard girls and boys track teams Thursday, March 28, but the biggest challenge proved to be weather, as heavy rains, winds and cold conditions proved to be the leading challenges for both teams.

On the girls side of the meet, Harvard placed 10th overall, scoring 17 points. Fairbury would win the girls team title, outscoring second place Thayer Central 118-97.

The Cardinal girls were led by double medalists Bella Roberts and Breonna Julich.

Column of a lot of topics

RAMBLES

Last weekend I was able to join several members of the Allegro Wolf Arts Center Board, a friend from New York, and community members for a Murder Mystery Dinner called “Easy Money.”

This was the first time I had ever done a murder mystery, and it was amazing!

My character was Detective Jesse Van Eck, who came to investigate the murder of my sister, Vee. It was fun watching all the suspects—who, in my opinion, were all crazy—mingle and try to sway the opinion with attendees of the dinner.

Thank you everyone who came out to support Allegro Wolf and our summer Broadway Academy!

A personal reflective week ahead

BULL

This is a week for me that always takes me back over the years as I was growing up in my family’s community newspapers in Shelton and Gibbon. It’s the 145th annual Nebraska Press Association’s convention, and this year, because I’ve been “around the block” just a few years, it’ll be a strongly reflective year.

As I’ve shared many times in this log of information I call the Bull, my column title is not original to me....It was my dad’s column title for over 30 years that he penned the Bull.

I revived the title when I returned to the business in 2009. This year also marks the 25th year since my father received one of NPA’s most distinguished honors, the Master-Editor Publisher award.

As I walk the halls of the Kearney Holiday Inn and take in sessions, I’ll not only walk and learn with my dad on my mind, but I’ll also be surrounded by many that have molded my life in this business, both in person and in spirit.

Sutton CTE program continues to flourish

Article Image Alt Text

BY WHITNEY WINTER

As the Career and Technical Educators at Sutton Public School gear up for their last year for the reVISION grant, they continue to open their school to outsiders for tours and a chance to learn about their Career Pathway Program.

Sutton Public Schools started the journey of converting their curriculum to what it is now, back in 2013-14. There was no program that existed at the school prior to Secondary Principal Brandy Thompson starting at Sutton, that she knows of.

Thompson and SPS’s Guidance Counselor Sharon Zoucha consider 2013-15 to be the planning period before any significant changes were made. During this time, Zoucha and Thompson visited and observed schools that had career pathways and shared the Career Pathway Program with the superintendent, Curriculum Committee, and the school board.
