Sutton resident, Pastor Darrell Leslie Kingswood, 53, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, NE.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, NE with Pastor Scott Henry and Pastor Lee Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation was Wednesday, from 1-8 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Paul G. Leininger

Paul George Leininger, 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, with his family gathered in prayer around him. He was born April 27, 1927, in Clay County, Nebraska to the late George and Irene Sheedy Leininger.

He attended Conception Seminary then joined the United States Air Force and served as a second lieutenant in Japan during the Korean War Conflict. He met the love of his life in San Antonio and married Johnine Elder in 1954.

Paul obtained a degree in education from Hastings College in Nebraska, with a Master’s degree in Education Administration and as a certified Guidance Counselor. He taught Latin, English, History, was an athletic director and a coach. He concluded his career of more than 40 years at Shiner and Hallettsville ISDs.

Lloyd Ljunggren, age 96, of Harvard, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Perkins Village in Hastings.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Evangelical Free Church in Aurora. Rev. Vance Christie officiated. Interment was in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical Free Church or the American Legion. Higby- McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. LLoyd Dean Ljunggren, the son of Rudolph and Ida (Bieck) Ljunggren, was born on Jan. 15, 1921, rural Harvard, NE, and passed away in Hastings, NE, on Jan. 17, 2017, at the age of 96 years.

Sutton resident, William “Bill” Calkins, 77, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at his home in Sutton, NE.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE, with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment followed at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, from 1-8 p.m., with the family present from 4-6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

William was born Jan. 29, 1939, to Carl and Alberta (Stroud) Calkins in Elyria, OH. He joined the Air Force and was transferred to Lincoln, NE, where he met his sweetheart Lula Rachow in Lincoln, NE and they were married May 22, 1958.

Inez E. Watts (of rural Edgar, NE), the daughter of Carl and Eva McCauley, was born Dec. 14, 1920, at the family farm in Clay County, NE. She departed this life on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at the Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE at the age of 96 years and 26 days.

Inez attended rural schools in the Edgar vicinity and graduated from Edgar High School in 1938 with a certificate to teach rural elementary education in Clay and Nuckolls County. On June 2, 1941, Inez married James H. Watts in Pawnee City, NE. James and Inez committed their entire lives to farming, ranching and raising their family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, one grandchild, two brothers (Orval and Harold) and numerous loved ones.

Services were Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, 10:30 a.m., at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial, with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations, was at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, 5-7 p.m., with family present at the funeral home and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Private memorial graveside services for Gaylon E. Geihsler will be held in spring of 2017 at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard, NE. Gaylon Elmer Geihsler, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, Jan.1, 2017, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Gaylon was born on June 6, 1943, in Hayes Center, NE, the younger of two children born to Clarence and Dorothy (Parker) Geihsler. He attended Hayes Center Public Schools, graduating with Hayes Center High School, with the class of 1961. Following graduation, Gaylon attended college in Kearney for two years and one year at Chadron State College. On Jan. 19, 1973, he was united in marriage to Helen L. McKelvy at the United Methodist Church in Harvard and to this union three children were born: Scott, Grant and Kari. Gaylon started working at Safeway Grocery Store in McCook, NE, and later Hastings, NE.

Lawrence D. “Larry” Nye, 77, of Dannebrog, died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at his home. Memorial services were 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran– Nysted St. Peder’s Church. The Rev. Bob Carlson will officiate.

Private family inurnment will be at a later date at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center.

Mr. Nye was born on Dec. 9, 1939, at Clay Center, the son of George D. and Vera L. (Herrick) Nye.

Larry grew up in Clay Center, where he graduated from Clay Center High School in 1958.

He was united in marriage to Eileen Griess on March 21, 1959, at Clay Center. Larry worked as a printer throughout the state, later working for the Grand Island Independent. Eileen died on Oct. 22, 1972.

He was united in marriage to Donetta (McMahon) Scheil on Aug. 22, 1975, at Grand Island. The couple first lived in Grand Island, later moving to Dannebrog, where he owned and operated Larry’s Inter-Clean.

Joan Ranee Cleven, 82, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on Dec. 30, 2016. Born Sept. 4, 1934, to Melvin and Leona (Barker) Aspegren in Sutton, NE.

Survived by daughter, Ranee (Dan) Tucker of Lincoln; son, Keith (Janel) Kohout of Fall Brook, CA; grandchildren, Lisa Brown, Jason (April) Tucker, Victoria Kohout, Zack Kohout, Nick Kohout; great-grandchildren, Alex(Andria) Brown, Aiden Tucker and Matthew Tucker; brother, Burnell (Barb) Aspergren; sisterin- law, Marilyn Aspegren; brother, Percy (Marie) Aspegren; brother, Herbert (Dot) Aspegren. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Arnold, son, Larry and husbands, Dwaine Kohout and Brody Cleven.

Funeral service was 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Roper & Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street. Visitation was 2-8 p.m., on Monday at the Funeral Home. Condolences online at Roperandsons.com.
