Fields selected for NSAA student advisory

Harvard’s sophomore Ellie Fields has been selected as one of the eight new members to the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) Student Advisory Committee. The new members will begin serving their junior years, 2018-19, and continue through their senior years, 2019-20.

According to a press release from the NSAA, the members were selected from more than 80 applicants and selected based on the representation of gender, school classification, minority representation and participation in interscholastic athletics/ activities.

Cougars compete at Thayer Central

The Sandy Creek boys’ team earned one point at the Thayer Central Invite Thursday to finish 11th of the 15-team field. The girls’ team also landed 11th but was unable to earn points at the meet.

THE BOYS

In the field events, the Sandy Creek Cougars finished six athletes in the top 15 of three events with senior Hunter Rempe earning the highest spot, eighth in the shot put, throwing 38 feet, 1 inch.

Sutton boys earn 135 points at Hebron to take team track title

The Sutton Mustangs won the Thayer Central Invite accounting for 135 points. The girls’ team marked 15 points to finish eighth at the meet.

In the field events, the Mustangs were led by junior Cameron Kleinschmidt, who won the long jump, marking 20 feet. Freshman Cade Wiseman finished third in the long jump, going 18-0.75.

Mustangs take top team spot

Mustangs, Fillies compete at Doane University

The Sutton’s boys’ track team took the team title at the Doane University Invitational hosted Friday, March 16. The boys scored 92 total team points.

Several Mustangs fared well beginning with junior Cameron Kleinschmidt and sophomore Jackson Perrien placing in the 60-meter dash. Kleinschmidt finished first with a time of 7.22 seconds; Perrien was eighth with a time of 7.74 seconds.

In the 200, junior Kyle Baumert finished second in 23.95 seconds. Junior James Griess and senior George Herndon followed in seventh and eighth, respectively, clocking a tied time of 25.47. Junior Brandon Friesen also ran the 200, finishing 14th with 26.13.

Racing begins March 24, 25

JMS kicks off season with spring thaw

Racing at Junction Motor Speedway begins Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25, with the annual Mike Chapin Memorial Spring Thaw.

Racing will begin at 4 p.m. both days. Admission cost $15 for grandstand; students 6 to 12 years old cost $5; and children 5 and under are free. Pit passes on Saturday cost $25 and pit passes on Sunday cost $30.

Stapleman earns All-American honors

Bailey Stapleman, a 2014 Sandy Creek graduate, finished his senior indoor track season at the University of Nebraska—Kearney at the NCAA Division II Championships this weekend.

Stapleman was one of three Lopers who qualified for the championships and the only Loper pole vaulter. He finished seventh in pole vault in Pittsburg, KS, to earn All-American honors.

Cardinals finish 15-10 on season

The Harvard Cardinals finished the 2017-18 season with a 15-10 record.

The season started with a loss to Giltner, 48-27, but then took off on a winning streak. The Cardinals defeated Franklin 44-20, Shelton 65-39, Axtell 38-37, Dorchester 47-26, Osceola 41-27 and Grand Island Heartland Lutheran 32-26 before the next loss.
