Harvard track teams continue to improve

Article Image Alt Text

BY JORDYN HULINSKY

The Harvard girls’ track team grabbed nine medals at the Heartland track meet Tuesday, April 10; the boys’ grabbed six medals. The girls’ team finished sixth and the boys’ team was eighth.

“Losing two of our first four meets has set us back some,” Head Coach Scott Trimble said. “Several younger athletes really needed those meets to learn their events better and adjust to high school level competition. Overall, we have started off with some strong performances and several good marks to work off of. We have some really good opportunities to get several athletes prepared for a shot at going to the state track meet and I expected those kids to work hard and give themselves the best chance they can. I’m really looking forward to seeing how much we can improve.”

Remembering that someone cares

By Ashley D. Swanson

When I look at my stove, I get a smile on my face...not because it’s a stove, but because of what it stands for.

The same smile comes across my face often when I look at my dining room table, or my recliner, or the many photographs hanging on the wall.

I smile because of what they represent, and that’s that someone out there cares.

Let’s be careful of our small town life...

By Tory Duncan

If we’re not careful with our small-town life, things could very well change fast in smalltown America!

Small towns are going to become smaller, school districts are going to become even smaller and a focus will become what happened to small-town America... In our case small-town Nebraska!

We’ve seen this all across the state and nation, small towns slowly getting smaller.

NE Farm Bureau petitions USDA to limit the definition of beef

LINCOLN–Nebraska Farm Bureau is urging the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to not use the term “meat” when referring to all lab-grown and plant-based meat alternatives. The request to limit the definition of “beef” and “meat” to only products from live animals born, raised and harvested in the traditional manner, comes from a strong movement to develop and commercialize alternative protein products, particularly “clean meat,” also called lab-grown or cultured meat, and plant-based proteins.

Voices of Zambia share hymns, gospel in Harvard

Article Image Alt Text

BY ASHLEY D. SWANSON

Their voices melt together in a euphony of sounds that echo in and out of the gym and hallways.

Capturing the audiences attention is easy once the guitarist begins to thrum the cords and the drums are beat in a melodic tune.

The Voices of Zambia do just that—capture the audience’s attention with little effort as they move from one gospel to the next. While some are performed in English, a majority of the familiar hymns have taken on a new language, a new rhythm, and a new tone.
