INLAND NEWS

As a follow-up to the “soapbox” on shingles the last time I wrote, I took my own advice. Shirley Nelson and Donna Mc- Cartney went to the Clay County Health Department the next day and received shingles shots. We are still “preaching” foreveryone to get the vaccination. Darrel McCartney has been out of the hospital for two weeks now and even though the sores are drying and the swelling is down, he is still in pain and now the itching has started. We didn’t realize how long the recovery period would be and he’s finding symptoms that others described just now surfacing. Steve and Merry Ablott celebrated Easter with a family gathering at their home on Monday after Easter. Those attending were Kevin and Carissa Uhrmacher, Cale, Xander and Emilia; Brad and Amanda Ablott and Taylor and Isaac. Don and Barb McCartney of Nelson were visitors in the Darrel McCartney home several times during the last few weeks.

Marlene Shirey has four of her great-grandchildren staying with her for a while. She’s a lot stronger than I am! Dan and Leeanna Reed attended the Memorial Service for their brother-in-law, Chuck Erwin, this past Saturday in Sutton.Carla Erwin is a sister to Leeanna. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Carla and family in this trying time.  Les McClatchy was in town for a short while on Saturday afternoon. He returned to Colorado that evening after attending  the service in Sutton.

by Ashley Swanson

I’ve never been one for superstitions—black cats crossing my path, certain symbols meaning bad luck—but when there was a fire every time I wore a skirt or dress to work, I started to be a little more careful.

Maddie Girl...

by Tory Duncan

Some of you will probably read this and just say, “Duncan, get a grip.” Yep, you’re right, Duncan has to get a grip. But last Thursday morning I put a part of my life down with heavy heart and tears and began creating memories after having to put to sleep my 13-year-old Bassett Hound, Maddie.
