Mustangs Second at Thayer Central

With the 2016 track season taking a little forced break with the cancellation of the Sutton Relays, that were to be held March 24, the Mustangs finally got back into action following a second place finish at the Doane Indoor meet held March 18 in Crete. The Mustangs headed south this past Thursday, March 31, for action at the Thayer Central Invite in Hebron.

Lady Cardinals Fourth at Thayer Central Invitational

The Harvard girls track team had a stellar day of action on the track and in the field during the Thayer Central Invitational held in Hebron March 31. The Lady Cardinals earned fourth place honors as a team, scoring 50 points, trailing only that of team champion Johnson County Central, who topped the team race with 99 points. Fillmore Central scored 97.33 points, while third place Tri County gained 75 team points. The scoring began in the field events for the Harvard girls, as seniors Cassie Roberts and McKenna Schuck combined to score 14 team points in the field events.

Jarosik, Claus to Run in 120th Boston Marathon

Two Clay Countians will challenge the field of over 30,000 runners during the 120th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 18. Edgar’s Nate Jarosik and Sutton’s Dawn Claus will be among the throngs of runners that will converge in Boston for the race.

Cougars Sixth at Arcadia-Loup City Meet

A trio of seniors paced the Sandy Creek boys track team, as Brook Svoboda, Corbin Hansen and Grant Schiermeyer combined to score 42 of the Cougars’ 54 team points in action at the Arcardia-Loup City Invitational held in Loup City, Tuesday, March 22. Through their efforts, Sandy Creek finished in sixth place as a team. The Ord boys would outscore second place Grand Island Central Catholic by 22.5 points for the team title, as the Chanticleers scored 116 points, compared to 93.5 points for the Crusaders.

Sutton Youth Wrestling Tourney is Saturday

The annual Sutton Youth Wrestling tournament hits center stage in the Dome at Sutton Public Schools this Saturday, March 19. The day’s events kick off at 8:30 p.m., with grades 9-12 wrestling until 10:30 a.m., at which time the little wrestlers will gear up with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age wrestlers hitting the mats at 10:30 a.m.

Cougars Close Season with 8-13 Record

A strong start in the 2015-16 basketball season, would see the Sandy Creek Cougars go 3-3, prior to their home holiday tournament, with wins over Centura, Centennial and Doniphan-Trumbull and losses to Wood River, Friend and Wilber-Clatonia. The Cougars then headed into the SC Holiday Tournament, hoping to improve on that early start, but losses to Cross County and Central City dropped the Cougars to 3-5 at the end of December.

Harvard Boys Finish Net Season at 6-16

Senior Tristan Kalvoda had a banner season in leading the Harvard Cardinals during a season that would see Harvard finish with a 6-16 record. Kalvoda led the Cardinals in every statistical category, scoring 336 points, an average of 15.3 points per game. The senior brought down 175 rebounds, dished out 41 assists and gained 63 steals.
